Firefighters use positive pressure air masks now, have for years, so the air is always flowing so any leaks don't bring the bad stuff into the lungs anymore. This is another reason the air bottle run out of air so fast, some people breathe heavier and faster than others too so some people will run out of air much sooner than others. Add in small people and larger people and there can be drastic differences in how long an air bottle lasts. F/F always go in in at least pairs, that way if one gets in trouble someone else knows it.

My Dad built one of those in the lounge room. The bow was a blunt pentagonal shield as there were four hull pieces, there were four buoyancy tanks, a taller mast and longer boom, plus you could run a spinnaker ! There was always that tension between 'going around' vs. 'going over' :-)
