I hate sailing!!! All it does is get you wet, and costs a lot of money and time. Many years a go I was a crew member in a 1/4 tonner 24ft yacht for an overnight race from Hamble to Cherbourg, then next day down the French coast to Alderney. On the overnight trip back to Hamble we hit a force 6 gusting 7, not fun in a little boat like that. Never ever ever ever again!!!
Waiting for Godot & salvation :-)
Why do doctors have to practice?
You'd think they'd have got it right by now
I quite enjoyed sailing but only when things weren't going too well, otherwise I suffered horribly with motion-sickness. The best boats for the former I found to be Catamarans, people... on dams. My sister and I were particularly good at embedding the top of the mast in the bottom of the dam and then flailing around for an hour or so trying to get it to point back at the sky and return to the slipway with weed and whatnot flying proudly from the rigging. It was always my job to leap off the front as we neared shore where I could slow our approach by getting run over by the hull.
I never got the hang of windsurfing though. But I would have made a very good metronome.
Please wait here. Further instructions could pile up at any time. Thank you.

Ah these sisters good ideas you see :-)))
We left the River Hamble at about 9pm that night en route to Cherbourg. When we arrived next morning we didn't get off the boat as we didn't have our passports. Down the French coast we went, then due to a navigation error we got caught up in the "Alderney races" and even the diesel engine couldn't cope. Right out to sea and back in again to Alderney harbour, or what purported to be one. Just a wooden landing stage actually, on a deserted beach, at late afternoon. Found a local pub for a much needed beer, But after 20 odd hours afloat, I stood in that pub and couldn't stop myself swaying from side to side, even on firm ground!!!
Apparently this is quite normal :-((
