If you're interested in a straight swap, Kathryn - the peanut butter we have has mealworms in it. And linseed. And millet,

In fact *peer at label* quite why it's called peanut butter when its main ingredients are beef suet, followed by wheat flour. Oh - no - there it is... peanut flour - of which there appears to be more ash.

I really cant think why I've never bought it before... I mean there's delicious, like your honey roasted ones, and then there's that!

Please wait here. Further instructions could pile up at any time. Thank you.

I did ask if you were aware of the British Political system. Under the Parliament Acts 1911 and 1949, the House of Lords can delay a Bill by up to one year, then the Government publishes it anyway and it becomes law.

Parliament Acts

@Annie - Filibuster

It is reasonably rare for a private members Bill to get through. But I agree that not enough has been done to support Autism.

My credit card is behind the bar, with a tab in my name :-)

The PM made a statement after meeting Grenfell people at Downing Street yesterday.

"Frankly, the support on the ground for families who needed help or basic information in the initial hours after this appalling disaster was not good enough."

She said phone lines would be better staffed and more staff would be deployed in the area. They would wear high-visibility clothing so they could easily be found, dispense advice and ensure the right support is provided, she added.

Latest news this morning is

Government staff have been drafted in to manage the response to the Grenfell Tower fire after criticism of Kensington and Chelsea Borough Council.

A team of civil servants has been embedded in the council office after residents complained they had been left with little support or information from officials.

The leader of the Council has made a statement full of platitudes, with no mention whatsoever of the PM's criticism levelled at him and the Council. Now the government has had to step in to take over and run the place. But just take a look at his name, Nicholas Paget-Brown. That says quite a bit to me. Hard to see how he can cling to his office for much longer, it must be untenable.

I mentioned earlier the ongoing fallout from the Grenfell incident, amongst other things, and one I put forward, the PM has now ordered all Councils to review the fire safety at their tower blocks. How many hundreds will be found inadequate in meeting current regulations? Where will the money come from to demolish and rebuild, or modify and upgrade? Where will the additional temporary accommodation be found for tenants while this happens? Tip of an iceberg.

@Annie - meal worms??? That is what you feed goldfish, not people. Remind me to decline an invitation to a picnic with you if you are going to dish out peanut butter sandwiches !!!

I'll have a Crown and Ginger please, thanks!

As for where the money will come from...I KNOW, I KNOW...YOUR taxes of course...where else does the Government get money from when  they want to spend more of it? They aren't going to cut some other project, they could delay a few but even that will will bring it's own set of protests, so better to raise an existing tax slightly or even come up with a new tax with the money earmarked, for now at least, for this special project. But as the problem will never go away since there will ALWAYS be some new 'old' thing that needs replacing, the tax like all others will just get bigger and bigger over time and will become just another tax you pay!

Everyone involved in local government finances will tell you that central government funding to Councils has been cut back by 10% each year for the last 5 years. That is one reason for the cutbacks in local policing, and rubbish collections etc. But Local Councils will simply not have the funds for a massive countrywide rebuild and refurbishment programme for tower blocks. It will have to come from Government funds. Chancellors of the Exchequer always allow for contingency funds in any budget, but this could cost millions.

I would hazard a guess that if the government proposed 1 penny on income tax to fund it, I think the populace would go for it for public safety. Whether it would be the same in 6 months time when it has likely died down a bit, is another matter.

Good morning RandyC :-)

Late edit

Nick Paget-Brown said it was "not accurate" to say the borough of Ealing had effectively taken over the emergency operation because Kensington and Chelsea could not cope. The magnitude of the disaster was such that one borough alone could not manage every aspect, he argued. "London has come together," he said. "I accept that in the early days the support has not been as coordinated as people would want," he told the BBC's The World This Weekend.

*injured blink* Oh... well... suit yourself... I'd planned it as a treat for the birds really - I just thought the wildly tasty label on the container might tempt Kathryn to part with her wildly tasty sounding peanut butter. As for credit card behind the bar, may I not have an Elephant on a table please? Thank you.

As Randy has already wished, so do I :) HAPPY FATHERS DAY  to all the daddies out there! :) Hope you're all being properly appreciated. I've not been able to find someone prepared to  look after my mum. It was short notice and she can leave people a bit traumatised so it's looking unlikely we'll be visiting my other half today unfortunately. Not to worry - we'll have father's day when he comes out of hospital instead.

I'd better not touch too much on the subject of finding the money for damage limitation following the crime of Grenfell. I'd get so much flak flung at me... :) *upend metal bin and insert anniet* but it does strike me that by "prettying up" an eyesore for the wealthier residents to look at and see reflected in their property values would be an interesting area to look at, and our stupidly large defence budget and warmongering ways too.

*attempt to steer towards door* alongside an increase in taxes somewhere up there at the... you know... top end that more than equals any increase at the bottom... and how about something that makes it far less lucrative for landlords to keep properties empty re tax rebates and whatnot... whilst making it an offence to intimidate tenants? Or does that make me a radical extremist?

;)

erm... can someone show me the door please...

Please wait here. Further instructions could pile up at any time. Thank you.

I'd better not touch too much on the subject of finding the money for "damage limitation" following the "crime" of Grenfell.

There is going to be a criminal investigation by Scotland Yard detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command, who are leading enquiries into the blaze at the Grenfell Tower.

There will also be a full public inquiry into the Grenfell Tower fire disaster ordered by the Prime Minister.

It would be premature at this stage to pre-judge their findings.

and our stupidly large defence budget and warmongering ways too.

That if I may say so is another matter.

and how about something that makes it far less lucrative for landlords to keep properties empty re tax rebates and whatnot... whilst making it an offence to intimidate tenants?

That is also another matter, which I would agree with you on, but not here.

erm... can someone show me the door please...

Yes of course, but please leave it ajar, and preferably with beer in the jar, not whiskey as in the famous song!!
