I was blaming Opera or an extension, but I just tried Firefox with no extensions.  Einstein forum takes ages to post a reply or edit a reply.  No other Boinc forum takes this long.  It's been like this for about a year or more.

Now I find it posts and edits fast in the cafe, but not number crunching.

If this page takes an hour to load, reduce posts per page to 20 in your settings, then the tinpot 486 Einstein uses can handle it.

Also I can't delete my posts, most Boinc forums allow to delete by editing to two space characters.

Peter, The slowness might

Peter,

The slowness might be a browser cache issue.  Have you tried clearing your entire browser cache?

That's why I tried firefox,

That's why I tried firefox, which I very rarely use, only to check problematic website.  So I doubt it's a browser problem.

It is slow by design.  IIRC

It is slow by design.  IIRC you talk to a server on one side of the pond and it talks to a server on the other side of the pond to get the data and then it can reply to you so it is always slower because of the extra step.  They don't have a CDN to speed things up like commercial sites.

That's not the reason.  I can

That's not the reason.  I can ping America almost as fast as I can ping something here in the UK.

Further proof is it's only slow if it's a long conversation.  Replying to this one isn't too bad yet, but once it's nearing a page full, it's far slower.

Actually isn't Einstein in Germany?  That's not far from me.

ping times are not an

ping times are not an indication or server response times.  while your browser is talking to a server in Hanover that server has to talk to a server in Michigan to get the data to return to you.  That is the built in delay.  It wouldn't surprise me if the server in the USA is a simple desktop and quite slow.

Also if any of the posts have graphics in them - signatures - those have to be generated and served by other machines all over the world and may be quite slow or even broken.  The more replies the more likely there are slow things.

Why is something as simple as this forum not just served by one machine in one place?

I don't understand.  Do you

I don't understand.  Do you mean I post this, connect to the forum server, then it checks I'm logged in in another country?  Why is that seperate?  And why would that make it slower if the conversation is longer?
