Take a look at the messages tab in BoincMgr, are there any errors? If you see messages like "Couldn't resolve hostname...." and theweb site for the project you're trying to attach to, it means BOINC can't communicate over the network. If thats the case you should also see a "Couldn't resolve hostname [www.yahoo.com]" and another one for www.google.com. thats BOINC testing whether the network is down or just the project. If you don't see the yahoo/google messages but do see one for the project then the URL is wrong.
If you see error messages for the project, yahoo and google, double check that your firewall allows BOINC to access internet. Also check that the proxy settings are correct - if you don't use a proxy server, make sure its not checked.
Have you or (anybody you know) ever attached a project using 5.2.2? (My projects were already there when I upgraded from 4.45.) Anyway, I just opened the attachment screens, and saw that they are not at all like BOINC 4.45 - allowing the use of e-mail addresses, etc.

Stick,
I haven't done any with 5.2.1 - still haven't checked 5.2.2, but I'm a one-project cruncher.
Gray, on my Cafe/5.2.1 thread, has several projects going and has updated to 5.2.2, and shuffled 5 or 6 projects around since yesterday - you might ask him.

Thanks to all for your suggestions. I tried all of them and nothing worked. the problem is at my end. (I did get the the error messages.) Could the problem be in my "preferences"? Perhaps I didn't set something correctly? Thanks again-Donna
There is only one bug that I am aware of in 5.2.2: you need to have a password that YOU have chosen, 6 - 8 characters should be fine, which you can create on the Einstein website. The login-key does not seem to work, or more precisely you will be told it isn't working and then suddenly (in some cases) you see the project listed as joined anyway...
It IS possible that the trailing forward slash is required ? In browser terms it makes little difference, but...
Under the "options" drop-down menu at the top of BOINC manager what is under your connection settings, and are you doing this connection from a home machine or from a network not under your control ?
Be warned, I am on dialup, so tend to vanish from time to time from the message boards (of course I sometimes have to sleep too)

When I said there was only one bug, I was referring to the connection process of attaching to a project.
However the guesstimation times for the work units range from spot on with some projects to wildly inaccurate with others. For example I crunch a Rosetta WU basically every hour, but at the moment the time left is 51 minutes, even tho I am at 90% and have taken 42 minutes to get to this point. Einstein and Seti seem close to the "real deal" as far as time guesstimation goes. Climate is not something I can measure - around 500 hours to go...
Predictor is my latest addition to the collection, and as such will take a few more hours before BOINC starts working with it. BOINC focuses on the original projects first. Any new additions to the "team" go on standby for a day or two, depending on the connection interval in preferences.
Hmm the above IS somewhat off the topic - my apologies. (But might be of interest to somebody...)

If yes, do you have Windows XP? If yes, did you allowed boincmgr.exe and boinc.exe to access the internet in the Windows Firewall?
Thanks for your suggestions Thierry. I've tried everythiing I can think of and nothing seems to work. I'm hooking up with a friend who may be able to help me figure this out. I'm only on Windows 98 upgrade (antique), so this may be a problem, don't know. Everything downloaded just fine. I'll keep on it until I have it figured out. Thanks again-Donna P.S. Firewall checks out ok...
These "messages" indicate that the BOINC Manager is not communicating with the internet. I know you said that you have checked your firewall, BOINC proxy settings and BOINC network activity settings but the problem symptoms still point in that direction. Right now, all I can think of to say is please double check each of these. Also, under the BOINC "Options" menu "Connections" tab there are 3 radio buttons. Which one are you using? (My setting is the "Automatically detect . . ." option - which is what BOINC Manager defaulted to when I upgraded from BOINC 4.45.) And, again, if you don't use a proxy, make sure neither HTTP or SOCKS proxy is checked.
