Well done Jord/Richard for those links. Looks a bit of a mess in that rig to say the least!
I should have realised that these days a Halon fire suppression system is more modern than a CO2 one, but it was obvious that they must have had something of the sort installed there.

Chris, they use 1,1,1,2,3,3,3-Heptafluoropropane these days as a fire suppressant.
Thanks for the update Jord. It was 15 years ago since I last adminned (is that a word?) a server room (Compaq Proliant 6500's) I would have expected things to have moved on a tad!

Information received by a roundabout route from Jeff Cobb.

There was indeed, as all of you so quickly found out, a fire at the co-lo facility. A machine, or possibly a battery pack, caught fire. It was probably not something that was related to s@h as Eric now can contact all his machines... (unless he forgot one). The fire suppression system is halon gas, so the staff was evacuated since there would be no oxygen. The air conditioner had to be shut down, but all the machines were still on. The firefighters had to go in wearing oxygen masks so that they could shut down power to all the machines.
Machines for various projects are slowing coming back on, but as you can imagine, the co-lo staff is quite over-whelmed.

Maybe a PSU overheating and blowing up, can't imagine what else could cause that sort of fire in a server or other similar unit.
So far It look like nobody was hurt, and no Seti kit was involved, which is good news.

What a mess. I doubt that the Halon fire suppression system can get recharged over the weekend. Without that I'm sure everything will remain down.

From the Reddit blog, "a cursory examination points to a popped capacitor, and resulting fire."
I hope the GPUUG has good third-party indemnity insurance for the servers they built and supplied to SETI.
