On all the tasks I looked up, the names of persons are shown when I click the Computer ID number, but when I click my computer, it says, "Show IP Address" or something like that.
Why is it that my nick isn't shown?
Thank you.

Maybe because you are logged in, so it displays a bit of extra information? If so, looking at the same info while logged out will show you the difference.

)
Your nickname shows on your account, not on (all of) your hostID(s). You are the only one who can see the details in http://einsteinathome.org/host/6986453, all of us who click that link will see only a condensed version, without the domain name, time and IP address(es), but with your nickname (to show us that that's your computer.)
Since you log in through your account, where you can see your nickname, and continue to show your computers from there, it's also not needed to show your nickname on your computers under your account, as you are the only one who can log into your account. Unless you are very forgetful and may not know what you just clicked, or where you are, three clicks in, but then you really have other problems, don't you? ;-)
Just trying to save "them"
)
Just trying to save "them" from more work - it seems that "Show IP Address" is more trouble then just leaving fadedrose in, the same as everyone else sees. My thread topic was wrong though, but it wouldn't allow me to edit it to say "computer" ID instead of User ID. There IS a difference.
I started looking up the computer ID's of people I was teamed with to see how far along they were, and also to see what happened to the 3 I lost because of the virus scare the other day. Happily, found out they weren't trashed, and where they went using their computer's ID.
I remember you were the one who told me that my computer was hidden, and I thought by unhiding it, my nick should show with my computer ID also.
I think I am now your problem...
Thank you, Jord.
I guess you thought you
)
I guess you thought you covered all the bases, but brought up another worry for me, no, two. One is being senile, you can't help that, but maybe you could explain just what happens when someone "logs out." Could I lose my points?
I have never logged out since the day I started, could you believe it's only been 46 days? Why do people want to log out? Does it still scrunch if I log out, and what if I forget how to log in? What number/information do I need to know to get back in again?
Thanks.
PS The fewer issues that arise from any replies will just bring up more questions. I enjoy the stuff I learned, but honestly can't remember what I thought about before I joined this mind-jamming "hobby."

Logging in and out only applies to the web site, just like any other web site you use where you have to log in with a username and password. It's just that most Boinc projects are very liberal about letting you stay logged in almost indefinitely so you don't have to enter your password every time you want to see your stats. If you log out, you can see yourself the same way the rest of us do.

If I don't log out, the icon

If I don't log out, the icon for GRD (strange one it is, too, a guy with long black hair on a red background, who is he anyway?) remains on the screen?
So, if I log out, the icon remains and I am doing work, right? If the icon disappears, I am not. The simple view remains while I do work, but I must click the Advanced View to see my stats which means going online?
Logging in will occur at what point if I log out? I am scared to screw up.
The more I learn the more I admire all of you for being in Seti and the dedication you all have.
Thanks..

That's fine perhaps if you have one PC that's always at the same IP address, but not if you have one PC whose IP address changes dynamically, or if you have more than one PC. It'll get quite confusing if all your computers show to you as belonging to "fadedrose", especially so since you're already looking at them from the account "fadedrose". And think, all your computers, as e.g. 1,000
You can either ask a moderator to change the title (press the red-x on the bottom left and 'report your thread', requesting that they change the title from tit to tat.
Or you can do so yourself, by making a post to the thread, then immediately (or within the next hour at least) editing that post. This must be a post made with the "Post to thread" button, not with any of the Reply to post or Quote to post buttons. And it can only be done by the thread starter. The "Edit thread title" option is then available on the post window.
It does to us, just not to you.
I'll notify my partner... ;-)

Like I said, logging in and out only applies to the web site. It has NO EFFECT on the work Boinc is doing on your computer.
To cause Boinc to stop crunching, you would have to open Boinc Manager, then go to File>Exit. There might be a way to log off as one user and on as another, but I can't really remember because it's something I never do. I'll bet hardly anyone does it. For most of us, there's no reason to. The point is, if you haven't done anything I said in this paragraph, then Boinc will keep crunching for you no matter what you do on the web site.

)
Thank you, David...I copied and printed all the stuff in My Account with my password typed in before I mailed it to me. Will print it with all the information on it so's I don't have to remember password and numbers. I may, may, or may not, log out. Can't decide. I think I did my first day here and panicked....
Half asleep last night (early morning more like it) planned a Glossary in my head for new people. It never got into print, but had every word that heads every column, even the initials "CPU" and "GPU." It would have "Radio Telescope" showing locations on a good website, and "Constellations" with a good website, "Projects" showing a list of all of them. It would show all types of Credits - Total, Average, Claimed, and Pending, "ID's" showing Computer, Task, and User. But I can't get up the ambition to make a list. Besides, it would need a pro to fill in the definitions.
Oh well, it was just a dum idea.
The "auto-login" is saved on

The "auto-login" is saved on the local computer in a "cookie" and after a certain time (IIRC, 3 months) you will need to log again as that cookie will expire...
To be sure that you have the right user and password, you can try to access the forum from a different computer. If you succeed don't forget to logout of that computer before leaving it to avoid someone else using your account for something you don't want...
