Transient HTTP error

Topic 231823

Several days ago I updated my BOINC to 8.0.2 (x64) version. Since that the E@H project can't be updated. The log entry showed: "... transient HTTP error ... Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down".

How to solve this problem?

You didn't by chance click on

You didn't by chance click on some Science links on the project did you?  You may have gotten your IP address banned by the project's security protocols.

Myself and another forum user suffered this issue for a day until we attracted attention from the admins to unban our IP addresses.

The symptom is being unable to view or login to the project and the error message was similar  "... transient HTTP error ... Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down".

I don't think I clicked on

I don't think I clicked on some links so that my IP address was banned by the project's security protocols, because I easily login to my E@H project account.

The problem is that, after I had updated my BOINC manager to 8.0.2 version, many of the E@H tasks completed crunching, were uploaded and ready to report. However, the "ready to report" status has not disappeared but steadily stayed since that time up to now (and no new tasks downloaded, of course). Then at the tab "Projects", I chose E@H and clicked on menu "update". I thought, by clicking on menu "update" I might force the completed tasks to report and might fetch new tasks. But it was useless.

The log entry showed:

"update requested by user / Fetching scheduler list / Scheduler list fetch from htttps:\\einstein...\ failed: transient HTTP error / Project communication failed:... / Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down".

By the way, this happens only to my E@H project. Other 3 projects of mine are OK.

BOINC client version used is 7.16.20
not 8.0.2 ??

Did you complete all tasks before updating to 8.0.2 ?

When did you update ?

I would abort them, restart BOINC and download new tasks.

Just a thought.

I updated the BOINC 3, 4 days

I updated the BOINC 3, 4 days ago. The BOINC is of really 8.0.2 version.

Before updating I let crunching tasks complete their works, while suspending "ready to start" tasks. (For the previous updates I did the same procedures as for this update, and no problem happened).

OK, but it says 7.16.20 ....

I personally would try ABORT + restart BOINC

I'm sure that you de-installed BOINC 7... before updating to 8 .... !

Have a nice weekend !

it says that because he hasnt been able to communicate with the project since updating BOINC. so the project isnt aware that he's updated, and hasnt updated the host details on the website.

is 8.0.2 compatible with

is 8.0.2 compatible with windows 7? I know that the Windows BOINC builds includes all the security certificates and stuff bundled into the windows installer. maybe those conflicts are preventing BOINC from communicating with projects?

try going back to the old version and see if it fixes the issue.

The OP said "the other

The OP said "the other projects are OK", so I assume that BOINC knows that it is runnung on 8.0.2

Or does BOINC keep separate computer informations for each project ?

the details visible on each project website are for that site alone. there is no data sharing between BOINC projects on the BOINC network or anything like that. everything is point to point.
