I wonder if this is Annie

I wonder if this is Annie :

If I'm not mistaken, it's the last time I got a comb through my hair, Mike, yes. *shuffle past mirror* which must have been awhile longer ago than I thought.

Thanks to some not inconsiderable success, the trellis in the middle of my forehead has my eyebrows growing up it now

*modest blink*

Not everyone can do that you know. No. It's good to refresh oneself with new quirks and whatnot from time to time, I think. Like grinding your teeth in your sleep when you've never done it before. I've been giving that a go and it really is excellent for face ache.

If you want face ache that is, Mike.

Do you... at all....? ;)

*glance at Jonathan's code* oh that's very good! I see what you did there :) Most clever. I especially like the way you've sprinkled all the clues we need to solve it in your posts already, without anyone noticing

Nee. En my onderwysers het my pogings glad nie waardeer nie. Ja.

Oh. I see you double posted, Chris :)  May I have a bottle of Amarula please? Possibly two?

And a very long straw.

...I'll try to keep the noise down...

Hi Kathryn :) Hi Bill :) Hi Gary :) Hi TL and robl and MAGIC and Phil and everybody I've missed too. And I didn't get the chance to congratulate you on your prior dominion of TLPTW Mikey. Congratulations!! :)

if that picture IS of her, I'm standing well back from Mike while she uses every one of her evil powers on him

I've not quite got the hang of them yet, David. It's quite possible no one spot is safer than another. Fortunately, my other half is able to attest to that :) although you'll have to wait for him to come out of hospital first. It's a pity my landlord wasn't around at the time really, because I think it was meant for him - you know - my erm... powers that day.

I do have fish - and frogs - and they have me, and cats that like to loll about on their tank purring a lot so I can unclog the filter more often while they watch. I tried a wire mesh dome over the top but it just made it more attractive if anything and harder for me to feed them. It's around somewhere but has taken the imprinted shape of Raphael's tummy (he's my big ginger who loves feet and purring) which is on the rotund side.

*SNORT at adored* :)))

I have missed you all enormously, minions...  yes :)

I have

;)

who'd have thought it!? ;))

edit: there was a big space here.

It's gone  now. You're welcome!!! :)

Please wait here. Further instructions could pile up at any time. Thank you.

Hi Annie!  I'll keep trying

Hi Annie!  Laughing

I'll keep trying to phone you...  At some point, there will be a moment when you should be able to pick up and commit to a 10 or 20 min conversation by phone.  You have been missed here, and at SETI.

Sorry to hear about your landlord issues; I hope you find a better place soon.

God bless, take care, and know that we are all here for you.

TL

[EDIT:]

Oh, and I'll have a Double Shot of Jager, and 1 Oz of JD Single Barrel - the 63-64% Alc. Content Stuff...  NOT the cheesy 47% Alc. Content Stuff.  (JD Single Barrel is THE BOMB!!!!!  Next, I'm up to trying some 12 Yr. Old Single Malt Scottish Whisky...)

Aha! All bow towards Annie -

I've been called a face ache more than once.

Yes. They said that about Ebola too.

Aha! Everybody get your combs and brushes out and all bow towards Annie - somewhere in London - and worship the Afikaans Goddess of Bad Hair Days. :-)

I wuz thinking of making one of those signs that you sometimes see in the movies. Like on MASH where there is a single pole and many arrows pointing towards various places/cities in the world : New York, Tokyo, Moscow etc. But the arrows would point directly through the Earth to the destinations instead ie. they would always point some amount down from the local horizontal*.

I think there is a market. Also I could make a celestial version with a moving pointer that - knowing it's own latitude, longitude and the time - could constantly point to something of cosmic interest at it's momentary position. Maybe track Mars, that sort of thing. Or with access to other databases follow your favorite space probe.

I'll maybe call my invention : Your Cosmic Significance Indicator. Could give people a Hot Cup of True Perspective along the lines of The Hitch Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy's Total Perspective Vortex, but kinder on the downside. I'd hope it would pull many people's heads out of their own belly-button or from up their own ****. Probably not. Too far gone with Social Media Dementia**, CNN Syndrome or SmartPhone Usage For Dummies***.

.... can you spot the LOL error ? "shine green and blink when it is safer to cross the road" won't stop self absorbed people going under a tram. You need to blink red to get them to stop crossing the road at the wrong time ...... :-)

Cheers, Mike.

*** Somewhat akin to The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe people can spend many apparent years inside their own electronic devices. But they don't go through the back of the wardrobe to the magical Kingdom of Narnia, returning stronger and wiser. Instead they visit the grand Palace Of Retardia, gifting IQ points in payment at the Altar Of Personal Focus ......

Nee. En my onderwysers het my pogings glad nie waardeer nie. Ja.

If that were in Dutch then it could also be written something like this:
Als ik het goed onthouden heb, was Afrikaans ook niet heel leuk.
Nee en mijn onderwijzeres heeft mijn (pogingen?/ gebrek aan talent) ook niet weten te waarderen.

Uhm, Ik denk dat dit correct is, maar ik baal ervan dat ik dit vergeet. Dus dit kan ook heelemaal verkeerd zijn.

But then the real grammar queens would still probably find lots of mistakes there.

If that were African, then I would not have a clue if that was right or not, as I don't speak that language. I know it is quite similar to Dutch. Here in Holland we like to joke at African for its simplicity.

A few examples at what we think is funny:
An elevator in African is called something like a hauling bucket.
And a subway is a mole train.
A warship is an afraid-of-nothing-ship
There are many more of such examples.

This joking about it then goes on that a submarine would be called a can-not-see-boat, while in fact it's simply the same as in Dutch (duikboot is valid Dutch and African)

I guess most African words are understandable in Dutch without knowing the language.

In all honesty, African can only be easier then Dutch, for why, see the next poem:

Quote:

It explains that in Dutch the plural of hat is not hats but something like haten, but a cat in plural is not caten but catten. There simply is no logic in why there is an extra T in there.
Similar illogical things occur when putting things in past tense.

Three!! :) Thank you. Chris

Three!! :) Thank you. Chris :) If I'd realised there would be three I might have been less rash making promises about noise levels.

Sorry to hear about your landlord issues; I hope you find a better place soon.

There is a horrible tendency for him to rear up all hideous and noxious when I can least deal with him rearing up at all, TL... in any guise...let alone a hideous and noxious one. Yes. It's almost as if he knows something he really really shouldn't, and so is able  to exploit it. But that might be me getting a little paranoid about him rather than accepting that it is just yet more evidence that my cosmic searchlight theory, just might be correct.

If anyone needs something to pop in their "breaking news" section on their science websites, or to reveal at conferences and stuff, just say...

I do like your signpost idea Mike. Wherever we all are in the world, we can look down on everyone everywhere else - at least slightly anyway - and think we're on top *elevate nose in preparation* with the Cosmic Significance Indicator mitigating the effect in those who suddenly develop rampant megalomania :) Something else I found interesting in your post I've now forgotten unfortunately. I don't think it's because I was mistaken about it being interesting, rather that, what it reminded me of when I thought of it, wasn't...

can only be easier then Dutch

That's exactly what I suspected :) It's also easier to expectorate on someone during a tangle with a G I've found. It was prepositions that gave me nightmares though. I could cope with a giraffe being a camel horse and an aardvark an earth pig, but joining useful bits of information like that together - as I just did there - like one does in English, has unpredictable results on a classroom of peers who'd been learning the language since they were born . or at least since they were six, while you hadn't been.

As to my riddle, shall I just post the solution?

Well what I've decoded from it doesn't make much sense yet. I'm thinking more time might fix that :) Obviously posting the solution would too, but ...

I'm still happily intrigued by it :) and happy to remain so till I solve it. Oh, and I liked the poem a lot :) Thank you for posting it.

*suddenly come across Mike's NotRight a-n-d fret*

:)

Aaarrgh! I suddenly have a rather intense pain in my back, much higher up than where I usually get them.

If anyone cares, there is a way-too-long account of my first time alone in the tower (as well as the rest of the holiday weekend) over at Seti. If you scroll back, there are also much briefer tellings of the previous few weekends.

No fire-belching, levitating, neo-natal sons* of a god were harmed during the production of this motion picture.

*Presumably, neither were the two girls who "played" that son.
