Thanks for the info. Remember you can always disable the Einstein@Home "starphere" screensaver and use any other, "password-capable" screensaver. The screensaver is not required for the crunching to take place in the background.
Because the patterns used to traverse the sky in search of gravitationla waves has changed recently, the little orange crosshair in the screensaver view will move differently and much slower, but it will move :-).
The disk-space requirements did go up recently, but on the other hand the crunching time per task was reduced considerably, not least as a result of user feedback.
Yes, I have the original problem now on BOINC version 5.10. I am using an ATI graphics card, which is up-to-date in drivers, and an AMD Athlon 64 dual-core processor. I get continuous client errors on the majority of my tasks. Nor can I see the screen saver, all I see is a blank screen with the details of what team I'm on, etc. Have they still not fixed the original bug?
I have the same problem now on BOINC version 5.10.28, I am using an ATI graphics card, which is up-to-date, I am running Vista Home Premium. I do not get errors. I also run SETI and that screensaver works just fine. All I can see of the screensaver is a blank black screen with the graphics in the four corners. Are they still working on a fix for the original bug?
Ok. Is there a fix, or not? That is my exact problem.
I have a similar problem with my Einstein application. I am using an Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4 GHz on a Asus PW5 DH Deluxe mainboard, 2 gigs ram and more than 40 gb free space and an Sapphire Radeon X1650XT card. I am using Vista Ultimate with all updates. I havent got the most recent drivers, but i have downloaded them. I do however think that this isnt a driver problem. My BOINC version is 5.10.30.
The reason why i dont think it is a driver problem is, that both SETI, Rosetta and LHC can show me the graphics, just not Einstein. When i start the screensaver or use the show graphics button, all i get it a screen with the Einstein logo, my name and credits, search information and percentage done. I can see that the work continues, with no errors. The only thing that isnt showing, is the starchart in the middle with crosshair and stuff.
I am doing the Hierarchial All-Sky pulsar search v. 4.15.
I am most definitely hoping that u can help me. I see this as a bug!!!
When I ran only Sety@home the screensaver was working normally, but now I have added the project einstein@home and all I can see in the screensaver is a black screen! Does anyone know why and how to fix it? Thanks!
Inge
Try This.
On Your desk top right click your mouse button to bring up Disply Properties. Then click on Screen Saver. In Screen Saver uncheck the box "On Resume,Disply Welcome Screen". This is for Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2. Probably should be the same for eariler editions.
For me the "show graphics" also doesnt work. It shows black and after 20 secunds even: BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH!
(win XP SP2, ATI Radeon Mobility 7500 with Omega drivers v3.8.252)
Thanx for your message about beta client. I will just wait for the new appli...:)
I think the Einstein screensaver works fine on both my home PCs and the PC in our staff room at work, but on two other work machines the BOINC screensaver is all that shows. This is disconcerting because several people have seen the Einstein screensaver and want to run it, but the PC I've setup only shows the BOINC screensaver. Both machines show the Einstein screensaver when I "show graphics", but not when the computers go to the screensaver. One of these PCs is in my room and some of my students have asked why the screensaver isn't working anymore. I don't know of any changes I made that would have caused it to stop showing the Einstein screensaver. Do certain data types not have an Einstein screensaver? If so, can I set my work PCs to not run that type of data? What are some other things I might try?
That wasn't the problem on my work machine or our security departments machine. Strangely the screen saver works fine on similar work machines, and worked fine on my PC for a while, but no long works. Thankfully the screen saver works fine on all our library machines that I'm using for my physics project.
I've recently re-attached to Einstein@home... it runs, but no screensaver. I've been troubleshooting as per this message board, so far, no luck. I've tried updating my graphics card (the computer is new!), running beta 4.25, etc...I've got an ATI Radeon graphics card,BOINC 5.10.30 and am currently on e@home 4.26. I'm also running Windows Vista Home & Student. Am I missing somethig?
