I am also unable to see video

I am also unable to see video on the screen saver. It just looks black, not that I really care too much but sometimes I like to see something you know? I have the latest drivers and I think this time it might be a Vista thing. Anyways, my specs are in my signature.

Windows Vista Home Premium
Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 @ 2.00 GHz 4MB L2 Cache
2048 Dual Channel DDR2 553 MHZ
ATi Mobile Radeon x1400 256 MB DDR2 x16 PCI-E

You could give us something more to work with. Like:
-What kind of computer?
-Which OS?
-What kind of video card?
--How much memory does it have?
--Is it really a card, or an embedded chip on the motherboard?
-Do you use the latest drivers for your video card?
-Do you use the latest DirectX version? (It updates every couple of months)
-Which BOINC version are you using?
-How did you set up your screen saver? (password protected?)

(blatantly stolen from Jord's post above)

Hi, Screensaver does not

Hi,

Screensaver does not work; instead a blank screen is displayed. The only way to show up the screensaver is set processing to full time and force scrrensaver to launch.
The desired config is to run only when idle and show screensaver then, like I do on my other machines.

These are my specs:

XP Pro SP2
Centrino Duo T7200 @2.0 GHz 1GB DDR2@533 MHz
ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 with latest available drivers
no "Go to blank Screen" on screensaver specs

I've been through some posts despite many flaming ones, and think it basicaly comes to update drivers, which I did but got no result.

Hope someone could help.

Regards.

Brother, you normally don’t need to update your drivers if the graphics can be displayed. One setting I found that gave the symptoms you describe was in the screensaver tab where there was a button labelled “settings I had set this to go blank after 5 minutes but Windows just sent the BOINC screensaver to blank as soon as it opened. I removed the tick from “Go to blank screen and it worked. Hope it fixes your problem. Dave

If you are using BOINC 4.45 on that machine as well (As you are doing on the 3.0GHz machine), you may think about upgrading to a more up-to-date version of BOINC. 5.8.16 is the latest version.

Hi fellas, Thanx for your

Hi fellas,
Thanx for your answers.
I forgot to mention that the issue happens with the latest version of Boinc, that's the 5.8.16.

I already has the "go to blank screen" unticked (I tested it both, ticked and unticked) and had no positive result. For some strange reason the app is setting the screensaver to go blank everytime it is about starting.

I'm going to test the older 4.45 installer I already have here and see if it works. At least on the 3 Ghz machine it goes like a charm.

Any more suggestions are welcome.

Regards.

Brother, One other simple

Message 20975 in response to message 20974

Brother, One other simple thing to check is that Windows is nor trying to start the screensaver before BOINC has restarted. If you have BOINC set to do work only if idle for 3 minutes and windows set to show the screensaver after 2 minutes then you will get a blank screen. Dave.

Hi again, I tried the 4.45

Message 20976 in response to message 20975

Hi again,

I tried the 4.45 Boinc version and it didn't wok at all on this laptop; it couldn't connect and gave some errors about wrong password or something similar, so could't add any project.

Back to latest version, I tried that suggestion: fixed preferences to start working on 5 minutes of innactivity and set windows screensaver on launching at 6 minutes, so Boinc should start first.

Unfortunately got no result, blank screen still launches.

Noneteheless, if if lauch the screensaver via the "try" button on the display it shows the "Boinc is currently suspended" until the Boinc trigger launch the computation and then ...voila! the constellation shows!!

Strange....

Brother, I set up my laptop

Message 20977 in response to message 20976

Brother, I set up my laptop exactly the same as yours and got – The BOINC screensaver – which is not a lot of help. Your graphics app is clearly working and your computer’s graphics can display it. The link between the windows screensaver software and the BOINC graphics app seems OK and quite frankly I am stumped, anyone else any ideas?
I’ll watch this thread with interest and if you get a fix please post for my info,
With regrets, Dave.
