Stick,
I feel like a fool. But you help me solve this problem..In the BOINC manager under tools, the "connect via http proxy server was checked and the port was 80" I uncheck it and everthing is up and running..
I know I told you this before but "Thanks to you and everyone who took the time to help me with my little problem"
Again thanks and talk at you later,
JP
____________

JP,

Funny thing - I thought about the possibility you might need to set up a proxy, but, I never thought you might "have a proxy set up" that you don't need. I think you solved this one yourself - with only a little help from me.

The best "thanks" you can give, is to keep "browsing" these boards, learn a little more about "how things work" and offer some help when you see a problem you know the answer to. But, I do appreciate your thoughts of gratitude. Good luck and happy crunching!

Stick,

That will be my "thanks" I'll learn about BOINC and try to help others. You are the one who started me on path to connect..So again thanks to you and all the others who posted info.
Get some sleep,
later,
JP

RE: Jord (Ageless) posted

Jord (Ageless) posted on the 5.2.1 thread that he's about to hang it up as far as the message boards go, due to personality conflicts and personal attacks. That would be unfortunate - he's one of the better help guys around. Attrition takes a hard toll. It seems there are 3 kinds of folks here - those standing on one side or the other of the help counter, those who have some hard science or philosphy or humor to expand our minds, and those who mostly offer inane chatter and spiteful static.

Michael

I saw his post, too. I hope he reconsiders (maybe, after some time passes). I've seen his posts help out in a lot of cases - mainly mine, when I was either "off base" or "over my head". In that regard, I need to thank him for helping me to "grow up" here.

Since I've been reading these boards, I've seen a couple of these "spats" unfold. And, I really don't understand how they develop (probably because I don't understand the "history" of these things). They seem to start out with some "innocent fun", "good natured ribbing" or whatever you want to call it. But, then they escalate to another level, where the line between sarcastic humor and acrimony is more blurred. Then, it seems we start to get a lot of posts from people, who rarely post on the topics, but like to jump in on the latest controversy (the history I don't understand). Anyway, that's when people get frustrated, get their feelings hurt, etc. And, all because some innocent humor was misunderstood. Anyway, I'll shut up now lest I start something up again.

But, before ending this post let me say: Ageless, please don't do it! We need you!
