Ever since the new Client Versions are released it seems that the Server for Germany/Europe is acting up (like once in the old days) and causes tons of WorkUnit Download errors.
Many WorkUnits eventually get through but it's still causing wasted bandwidth...
What gives ?

Lots of Download errors...
)
The AEI download mirror has been taken offline (see Server Status Page) on Friday for a closer analysis of the problem, so the files should be downloaded from other mirrors by the clients now (automatically). I personally doubt that it has anything to do with the Apps. The problem might, however, have been triggered by the increased traffic from work being done faster now. I know that Steffen & David are working on this.

Just out of interest: How do I know which mirror I get my WUs from? Does the hostname in the messages tab tell me?

I've not noticed that a client writes the complete download URL in the messages - maybe there isn't such a client or maybe I didn't notice (yet).
The list of download locations for a file can be seen in the sched_reply_einstein.phys.uwm.edu.xml file in the BOINC directory.
Here is an example for the "earth" file section from my sched_reply:

This tells the client to try the download servers at AEI, Glasgow, MIT, PSU, and UWM in this order. The list will be cycled if you are in a different timezone closer to another server.

Thanks a lot. That would mean I'm getting most of my files from AEI, since I live in Germany... luckily I didn't get any download errors.
No download errors here

No download errors here (living in Germany as well). But perhaps having not nearly as many machines as FalconFly has plays a small part in this ;)

)
Hm, I've been thinking about that as well. Odd thing is, that my Network (so far) always managed to squeeze online as 'a pack' and not causing Download errors. Don't know why only EAH is affected, but it resembles the old error seen once about a year ago.
Back then, it was a faulty mirror as well, but as soon as it was shutdown, everything was running smooth immediately. Now, I'm still seeing the errors (although the faulty mirror apparently isn't used or it's fixed)
I got following
)
I got following messages:
The error started on saturday 25.8.2006 (18:30 UTC) until 26.8.2006 (01:30 UTC) and reoccured from 13:30 UTC until 14:10 UTC yesterday (monday 28.8.2006).
My server currently works on short WUs (3100sec computation) and has a 'connect every' value of 0.01 days -> each WU is downloaded just when it is needed.

RE: Ever since the new

Are you by chance running BOINC-v5.2.xx and is behind a proxy? If so, it's a good chance you've hit one of the download-bugs in older BOINC-clients, to fix upgrade to v5.4.9 or later.
Even if you're not behind a proxy, you can still be hit by the download-bug, that was finally fixed in v5.3.15. Oh, and v4.45 had another download-bug, in case anyone else is having a problem...

There was indeed a problem with the AEI mirror that has been found and (hopefully) fixed.
Enjoy!

The interesting part in this
)
The interesting part in this is the fact that I get the download errors only on my Windows machine. The Macs download WUs without problems.
