Are you still doing the updates on the XP machine?

My own pc's are slowly having the icon show up too, some I still have to do a few dozen upgrades before the Win10 upgrade shows up, why do upgrades if the machine is running Boinc just fine and it's a Boinc only pc anyway? I guess now I know why.

I stopped doing updates on the XP last year since I don't trust microsoft enough to do that.......figured they would give me one last update to crash the OS and try to make me change to Win8.1

you have mail about how to keep getting them thru 2019.

My XP box is still running and still getting the monthly updates to the Malicious Software Removal Tool... and nothing else.

Is what I read a few months ago about them even providing a free upgrade to 10 if your 7 or 8 is illegitimate still true? And can I upgrade a Vista laptop to 10?

And can the OP or a mod please change the title of this thread so it indicates what the actual topic is?

I am pretty sure you have to have either Win7 or Win8.1 to do this free upgrade to Win10

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-10-upgrade

*Windows Insiders have been running the test version since January

I have just been watching instead of doing that since I don't like to give a cruncher a break and my DSL sucks.

MS did say I might have a problem with my Intel driver for my wireless (this is my laptop) and I emailed Intel and they said they will be ready when Win10 becomes official.

A ton of cash machines etc still run XP too so MS can't just stop or disable them thru an update, there is a link to make MS think your XP is a business use one and you can still get all the updates thru 2019.

No on Vista, they are orphaning it, they wanted people to upgrade to Win7 or 8 or 8.1 and ONLY people who have those versions can get a free upgrade to Win10. The Win10 free upgrade is ONLY good for one year from the date they release it to the public, currently July 19th. After that EVERYONE will have to pay to upgrade from any other OS to it. Anyone that has Win10 will then get free upgrades for life, at least that is what they are saying right now.

There IS one caveat...anyone running an "Enterprise" version of Win7, 8 or 8.1 WILL NOT be able to upgrade to Win for free. The "Enterprise" version is designed for businesses only and you will need to contact where you got your pc to see about upgrading it. If you ARE the business then you need to contact MS about the policy.

As for the 'pirate' copies of Win7, 8 or 8.1 yes MS is still saying you can go to Win10, BUT you won't get free updates for your then 'pirate' copy of Win10. I think this is a work in progress for them, they don't want people just getting Win10 for free and then passing it out like candy, but another side of their business says YES DO IT NOW so they can then upsell you on other products like Office365.

XP's Malicious Software Removal Tool Updates have also expired. March or April of this year were the last updates to XP. I haven't received anything since then.

[EDIT]

Well, I stand corrected! :-O To my surprise, there IS indeed a June Update for XP.

I think I will update my XP

I think I will update my XP Pro last after I switch the other 5 to Win10......if the old 3-core Phenom is still crunching.

Then I will use my Win7 disk to update it to X64 to start off and then to Win10........on my slooooooowwwww DSL

Well unless I make a copy of Win10 and do it that way

Sorry for the delay. I was offline yesterday; upgraded Prometheus's video card from a GTX-275 to a used GTX-750 TI. All is working as it should on Prometheus. (Win 7 Pro x64.)

Exeter is XP Pro x64; so, I'll just leave that alone for now. If I do anything to it, I'll pull out my Win 7 Home Premium Upgrade Disk and upgrade Exeter to that, and then to Win 10. I'll wait until I get the four current Win 7 systems upgraded to Win 10 first. (Since I've already used the Win 7 Upgrade disk for Voyager to go from Vista SP-2 x64 to Win 7 Home Premium x64.)
