Congrats to David Hammer and the whole team to get the project running again, and good luck for E@H for 2007 (and of cours for 2008, 2009, 2010,...) :-)
Yes indeed, and it looks like Dave went to the Montgomery Scott School of Engineering, since his repair estimates seem to always have a "Miracle Worker" factor built in. :-D

Shh. Your letting out the secret. ;) Actually I hate missing deadlines and I've learned that if you don't give yourself extra time for the unaccounted you will rarely meet your deadline. I am not trying be a "Miracle Worker".
That said I really enjoyed the time Scotty gave LaForge a lecture on repair estimates.
Pretty new to Einstein, despite what my join date indicates, so someone clue me in on this topic.
Is this project in some kind of danger so to speak? I glanced at the news on the homepage and didn't notice anything more significant than typical issues while the tone of this thread seems to indicate the project was dead and then "brought back to life".....or am I just reading to much into the content of this thread????

They've had some hardware issues...The project went down twice during the holiday period...But yeah...it's not as dramatic as it seems.

Thanks for the clarification. I had to join additional projects this weekend just to find WU's to crunch. Slowly moving away from Seti as it has been brought to my attention that they are not analyzing the data produced by us crunchers.....thus making my efforts for them a waste of time....
At present the dying of harddisks on BOINC project servers seems to be epidemic - here's the actual status of another project named SpinHenge I'm crunching for occasionally:

Dear users,
To us just 2 hard disks have died in the file server. The Raid cannot be based with a hard disk correctly. Therefore all server programms will be shut down until the Raid is built up correctly and we have checked all data. This could be until tomorrow 18:00 of German time or a bit later. The webserver is online and we post messages if there are news. We thank for your understanding,
Thomas Hilbig
Happened by accident, using faulty RAID controllers of the same brand or really a harddisk epidemic? Nevertheless, the engagement of David Hammer and the whole staff at Einstein@Home, even at weekends, is unprecedented - a lot of thanks to you all!

There does seem to have been an inordinate number of such problems over the Christmas/New Year period. Thanks to David and the rest of the Einstein team for getting the project back up with the minimum of fuss....and over a weekend too!!!!
I was actually starting to get a little paranoid....when Einstein went down the first time (along with SETI) I joined uFluids to get some WUs to crunch. Then uFluids promptly went down.... And when Einstein's server failed again, I joined SpinHenge....just call me the Angel of Death, LOL!
The way things are going I expect "Rosetta" to fail any day now....
Great Work Bringing E@H back!

Yup, more cheers to the E@H IT team!!
