I am using router conencted to a DSL, and whenever I click on Projects-Attach to Project, then input http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/ for the website, it asks for http proxy of SOCKS proxy information. I am at a loss of how to fix this.

I put Detect Network Settings Automatically
P.S. My knowledge of networking and other internet issues in very limited.

Is the SOCKS Proxy box checked (under the Options/SOCKS Proxy Tab in BOINC Manager)? If so, uncheck it.

No, it's not

Also FYI, I have Sygate Personal Firewall, but BOINC is put on Allow, so It should be cause any problems. Also windows firewall is disabled.

Your knowledge is much better than you think. Also, you have done a good job of describing the problem and your actions - so I think we should be able to get to the bottom of this quickly.

Have you tried the "Use my Local . . . (LAN) connection" option yet?

Also, if the LAN option doesn't work, it might be helpful if you "Unhide" your computer (under BOINC preferences - edit "Your account" on this web-site). If you are a little uneasy about doing this, you can view the kind of information this displays by viewing my info. Just click on my name to the left of this message and any other items in "blue" that are displayed. The info can be helpful in troubleshooting problems people run into.

Ilya,

You may need to have your firewall allow boincmgr.exe access, as well as boinc.exe. Ageless explained in another thread that it uses ports 1043 and 31416.

Michael

Well, that quote was unaccurate, I really wanted to say that I had no knowledge of proxy servers or any underlying process affecting my connections.

I tried what you said, doesn't work with Connect to Lan. My account on the site doesn't recognize my computer, as I don't think it's ever managed to connect to it yet.

By the way, thanks to all for responses

I've let boinc.exe and boincmgr.exe full access to all ports, I've also tried to run it with my firewall disabled, it still asks me for my proxy conncetions when I try to connect to a project.

Ilya,

I'm fresh out of ideas. My connection goes CableModem->Vonage Router/VOIP Adaptor->Ethernet card, and when I installed Boinc/Einstein, it was somehow automatically configured, I had nothing further to do. Sorry.

It's allright, thanks for your help. Maybe sleeping on it will give me fresh perspective.

I don't know much about Proxy servers either. But I doubt that you use one. My guess is your BOINC connection settings are somehow confused. Right now, I think we need a little more info from you. Please tell us what OS your computer uses (e.g Windows (version), Linux, Mac, etc.) and which version of BOINC you have installed. You should also copy and paste the messages under your BOINC Messages Tab. And, just to make sure you don't use a proxy, see if you can look up your internet connection settings. If you are using Windows, you can find out by looking at the Connections tab of your Internet Options control panel (then at LAN settings).
