Think i started with

Think i started with seti@home classic about 13 or 14, celeron 500, took ages.

Funnily enough the celeron is now crunching E@H units, albeit at an extremely slow rate.

Hey! I used to play GNU Chess in the 1980's!!!

I remember playing Adventure on an Onyx computer in the 80s. No graphics, just a VT100 terminal.
Tullio

Was that an ASCII game? I been searching around for quite awhile trying to locate a particular ASCII game from way back but can't remember the name (vaguely remember the game at all lol). Seems like it used X's to represent trees... I get nostalgic sometimes...

-edit- or was it interactive fiction? I did a spot of searching with the name and that is one of the possibilities I came across

maybe you're referring to NetHack or one of its predecessors?

Nah, it wasn't NetHack or any of the similar maze roguelike games. I used to play NetHack but never got to the Amulet of Yendor BTW... The unknown game as I recall was in an outside setting instead of leveled caverns.

Have you looked at the games here or here? :)

Thanks for the links, I'll take some time this weekend to go through the games to see if it's in there (particularly the first link). Another good site for old DOS games and similar is the Home of the Underdogs. It's a shame that it isn't updated anymore.

-edit- I apologize for taking this thread in a different direction, zc science.

DOS?!? And you're ... 16 or 17?
I was running DOS in 1995-1997 only because I wasn't willing to spend money on a Windows machine yet.

Sure DOS! I was in primary

Sure DOS!
I was in primary school in 1999.
At that time, you know, only a few people here knew computers.
When you run Windows, we only had DOS.
And our computer teacher taught us very easy DOS, my father also taught me some.

So it is because you're in China that DOS was still being used exensively?
