Which field are your research in?
I like quantum mechanics very much though I haven't understood it completely.
I am now retired but I have done some work both in experimental physics and theoretical physics. In the first field I have helped to build a bubble chamber as a neutron detector and was the first to use transistors in its electronics circuits, made of germanium and not of silicon. In the second field I did research in elementary particle physics using group theory. Then i worked as an astronomy and physics editor at Mondadori publishing house and was very interested in astrophysics. Astronomy is everybody's second science. Then i went into computers and managed a software development team in Area Science Park in Trieste, where I was connected to the Internet long before the World Wide Web. I compiled most of the GNU free software on a MIPS computer running UNIX System V and Berkeley BSD. Now I run Linux just for fun. I was one of the firsts to give attention to prof. Joseph Weber and his attempts to detect gravitational waves in the sixties. Not many physicists in Italy were interested in General Relativity at that time. I am glad to see that they have changed mind, and from May 17 data from the Virgo inteferometer in Tuscany should be processed by Einstein@home, according to prof. Allen.

Well, I have 3 grandchildren, Andrea, 6, Alice, 2, Michele, not yet 1 year old. As you see, even physicists can have grandchildren!

Are you a physicist??
I respect you deeply! And I also want to be a physicist in the future.
Hello everyone!I'm Zhang Chi from China.I am 16 and I am a middle school student. And I love science. I want to be a scientist in the future!

Well yes, but a physicist is not different from any other man.

There speaks Esme a Physics graduate also.
