I just don't get it? What is it with this credit system?

Jimbo, I'm guessing you mean

Jimbo, I'm guessing you mean this WU? Well, since the other 2 got credit, yours must not have had similar enough of a result. Further, when I looked at your WU result here, this is the output file.

4.45

No heartbeat from core client for 31.000000 sec - exiting
Resuming computation at 826/76229/76229
Fstats.Ha: bytecount 2438529 checksum 116527702
Fstats.Hb: bytecount 2698889 checksum 129010651

Now, the "no Heartbeat" is explained in the Wiki on this page.

And Ocean Archer.. hehehe... byte....

Well Jimbo is seems that you

Well Jimbo is seems that you can have a successful WU but it can also be invalid, because it does not match the other two WUs, and this is what happened in your case....

Of course, I suppose it is

Of course, I suppose it is too much to ask to have you read the BOINC FAQ, Sredit Section, or the entry "Credit" ...

But, then again, I found the system much more comprehensible than one that issues a "one size fits none" for returns, valid, invalid, cloned, duplicated, without discrimination ...

yeah, I guess it was too much to ask for a little clarification, wasn't it?

No it wasn't.

You said ... "I just don't get it? What is it with this credit system?"

And I said, did you read the Wiki?

There are several thousand words on 10-25 pages, depending on how wide you cast your net ... in all of that we discuss history, operation, give examples calculations and philosophy and explanations.

Those pages are the result of nearly 2 years of discussion of the ins and outs of credit. That is where you start.

From there, other questions may occur.

Since you asked a non-specific, encoumpases all question, you get shown to the most comprehensive answer we have. If there is still something not clear, then we can talk. Perhaps you will see something we missed. Perhaps there is another question we can answer with specific revisions to the Wiki content.

There is a one page description of each and every term related to credit. Most definitions have lists of related concepts in the Also See section. All concepts have their own pages too ... the FAQ gives much of the same material in a question and answer format ... we limited those as people were not reading many of them when they were tracked on separate pages ...

From all that, the only thing we have not done is to come to your house and run your browser and read to you the individual pages ...

So, what is up with the credit system is covered in the Wiki, if there is something said there that does not make sense we can explain it further ...

Success means the result was

Success means the result was downloaded, crunched and returned in good order. It does not mean it's valid. That's the simple explination for it all.

If you have several of these, the suggestion is to run programs like Prime95 and Memtest86 to check for problems in processing and memory.

Good luck, and happy crunching!

I know this is an old thread

I know this is an old thread but I think there's something to add:

"No heartbeat from core client" doesn't always mean something "really bad", it can happen, when another application needs all CPU time and/or overbooked the physical RAM very much.

Just lately I had it when I tried to split a huge postscript file (~460MB) into smaller PDFs with an Acrobat tool and I was very curious how BOINC/Einstein would handle it. CPU load was always at 100%, virtual memory usage nearly 200% of the installed RAM. It took >5 minutes to open the task manager (not exaggerated!).

To my surprise, the result was valid, although it needed a "little" more time than usual (more than 2 days).

Resuming computation at 4642/179362/181432
No heartbeat from core client for 30.004940 sec - exiting
No heartbeat from core client for 30.004940 sec - exiting
Resuming computation at 0/0/0
Fstats.Ha: bytecount 1494244 checksum 71510784
Fstats.Hb: bytecount 1958362 checksum 93731004

Well, it restarted it - but at least it didn't crash it, even though I'm still on CC 4.19 :-)
