Hello all
just wondering - I'm using Einstein 4.40 with BOINC 5.3.26 and seem to be getting times in the 5-hour bracket - the question is this:
Have the WUs been standardised - ie are they now all the same size again as per the previous Einstein WUs ?
I'm just fiddling with the kernel in Gentoo Linux and removed a fair amount of stuff that the Genkernel app created, so would expect a speedup in cruching time, hence my query.

Glad to see you're still with us! And, I see, still "micromanaging" things. :-) :-)
No, there are still different size WUs, all equal size within a datafile, but varying from datafile to datafile. Often the difference from one datafile to the next is small, but it is consistent. For instance, my rig is currently slicing off WUs from datafiles r1_1077.0 and r1_1035.5. WUs from r1_1077.0 are taking 5100-5300 seconds, while those from r1_1035.5 are in the 4800-4900 second range. Small diference, but consistent, and repeating.

Yup and Gentoo is pretty much the ultimate when it comes down to being able to erm.... "adjust" things :)
so if I get a range of WUs, with say just the last digit changing, I should expect 'em to be pretty much the same size - great ! Now I just need to find out exactly what I don't need in the kernel (big grin)

PS: never really went away - been reading the forums pretty much couple times a week. Saw some nasty stuff in the "Cafe" so I don't go there much anymore - and anyhow, shaving that last second off a WU is much more fun than arguing :)

Yes, I saw someone was baiting me over there a while ago. My general attitude is not to engage in that stuff, and my medical condition makes engaging in petty argument wholly unworthy of whatever remaining time I have left in this world.
