Hello
I am new to this project.
Yesterday my first workunit P2030_53447_77721_0044_G167.86-04.77.C_6.dm_236_2 was finished and uploaded to your server, but until now its status in my task list is still "in progress".
What happened here?

workunit lost?

Hello Tacitus. You may be a victim of what seems to be a continuing problem at the moment. See the threads about “work units not appearing†and “Couldn’t find computer†in this section.
Hopefully someone will fix it soon.

Hi & Welcome to Einstein@Home!
This is a frequent source of confusion, let me try to expalain:
In addition to what Drudge wrote, there's one more thing to note:
Tramsmssion of result to the server is a two step process in BOINC:
1) "Uploading"
2) "Reporting"
Whenever a task finishes, BOINC will upload the result (usually a small file) almost immediately (or on the next occasion when the PC is not connected to the Internet 24/7).
BOINC will then wait for more workunits to finsh. Afer some time, it will report all the result that have finished up to that time. It is only then that the results will be displayed as completed in the web interface.
Why is this? Couldn't BOINC report the results when it uploads it?
The rationale beheind this process is efficiency on the server side. The uploading doesn't require any significant processing power on the project servers. But when the result is reported lots of database operations have to be performed. It is more efficient on the server side to perform this operation if it can be done for a few result from the same PC, instead of several times for only one result.
So after some time your result will be reported automagically.
In order to force reporting, you can also press the "Update" button in BOINC manager GUI whuile you highlight "Einstein@Home" in the prohjcts tab. This will cause all uploaded results to be reported. But again, this is not necessary, the results will be reported anyway, only a few hours later.
Happy crunching

Ok, problem is solved.
After pushing the "Update" button the workunit status is now "completed and validated".
Thank you very much for the explanation.

I am sorry, but I have
)
I am sorry, but I have another problem.
The new task h1_0957.30_S5R4__482_S5GC1a_1 suddenly vanished during calculation. The progress was below 10 percent and I was told:
15-Aug-2010 15:38:41 [Einstein@Home] Computation for task h1_0957.30_S5R4__482_S5GC1a_1 finished
15-Aug-2010 15:38:41 [Einstein@Home] Output file h1_0957.30_S5R4__482_S5GC1a_1_0 for task h1_0957.30_S5R4__482_S5GC1a_1 absent
Am I right in assuming that this isn't a normal termination of a task?

Hi!
Right, this might indicate a problem. If you push "Update" once more we might be able to see some hints in the output that is reported (even if no result is produced, some diagnostic output of the app is always reported back).

Ok, update is done.
Status is now "Error while computing".

Hmmm.... The output doesn't look like anything I've seen son far, error-wise. Let's see how the next workunits are doing, maybe this was a one-time problem.

Hello again.
The completed workunit P2030_53447_77721_0044_G167.86-04.77.C_6.dm_236_2 has disappeared from my task list.
What's wrong?
RE: What's
)
Nothing :-).
Please realise that the online database is just a temporary record of the recent tasks you have processed. Approximately 7 days after completion, results are removed to make way for further new results. It is not possible to keep always online, the huge number of results that flow through the system each day.
However, there is a textual record of all tasks that your computer processes that is kept and updated locally on your computer. Look in your BOINC Data directory for the file 'job_log_einstein.phys.uwm.edu.txt'. The information is fairly sparse but you could always supplement it with any other details you wished to keep, while it was still visible online.
Cheers,
Gary.
