I've looked in E@H FAQ and on Paul Buck's site but did not see what I was looking for.

Situation: I have a laptop that disconnects from the web for a day or two at a time. I've upped my download to .6 days work. Admittedly, I've never "disabled BOINC network access" prior to disconnecting. So the manager tries to connect and makes longer and longer delays before reattempting contact.

(In the laptop) I now have four completed WU's on the Work tab reporting "ready to report". I've read on Paul Buck's site that the transfer tab really would be for dial-up situations. When I connect to the web, it's always at DSL speeds.

Question #1: Is delayed contact with the servers an appropriate reason for the WU's to start showing up on the transfer tab? (they're not)

Question #2: I've got E@H running as a service on XP. Can I jump to the command prompt and issue an "update" command to force it to connect?

I know, if the servers are busy, they're busy and more connects won't help. But I was unconnected for hours at a time without "disable Boinc network access".

Question #3: Is that something I should learn from this--"disable boinc network access" more often to keep it from pinging to dead air?

Thanks.

Work Tab vs. Transfer Tab and forcing an update

Just learned a valuable lesson--if I don't find the answer, dig harder--it's there. Using search word "update" in the message text of the message boards yielded messages that gave me insight into my solution.

Duh!
I should have gone to the Projects tab and clicked on the Einstein@Home line to highlight it. (It's the only project in my case). The moment it is highlighted, new options become available on the lefthand margin--one of which is UPDATE !!!! I see from another message that sometimes it may take some time for the update to complete. Checking the message tab, the progress looks good.

So, this answers part of my questions. I guess I don't need to jump to any command prompt with these new found abilities from within Boincmanager.

1. Should I "disable boinc network access" more than I've been doing?

Thanks,

#1 Sometimes. Particularly

#1 Sometimes. Particularly the data upload should show in the transfer tab, the report will not.

#2 Found your own answer.

#3 You should disable access before you disconnect and reenable after you connect. The 4.25 and higher versions will remember the state of this option so I highly recomment running that version if you have an intermittant connection type.
