My Windows 10 machine with an NVIDIA GTX 950 suddenly started barfing failed BRP6 tasks in the last day or so and I was wondering if this is a problem on my end (and if so how do I fix it) or a systemic problem with a change to the application. I don't see any other activity on the boards that look like my problem, so I assume it's the former.

That machine used to reliably kick out a BRP6 task ever 5,000 or so seconds, and now it is only doing one or two a day with the rest failing.

I think this snippet is common among all of them.

Windows NVIDIA error with BRP6

may or may not be related but there are reports that Windows update sucking up resources, especially if you have it set to "not download and install"

Check the windows update and see if it's trying to download and is stuck.

Can you check to see what programs are running and how much RAM and CPU they are using up?

I'm actually in a bind on

I'm actually in a bind on that suggestion. The stupid thing picked a time when I am physically away from the machine for a few days to pull this stunt. I will check to see if your suggestion is correct when I get back. I'd also be a little surprised if something was hogging the RAM. Although it's only got 8GB, a kid has been using it for gaming without coming close to maxing the RAM before.

I would start with rebooting

I would start with rebooting the machine, preferably powering down to wipe all RAM.

I have installed a Geforce

I have installed a Geforce GTX 750 on my Windows 10 PC with 24 GB RAM, and all Einstein@home GPU tasks have ended in Computation error while the SETI@home GPU tasks run by the applications optimized by the Lunatics group end regularly. The board temperature seen by GPZ is 41 C. The nVidia driver is 353.54. Should I update it? I am new to GPU crunching.

I have updated the nVidia

I have updated the nVidia driver to 361.75 and SETI@home GPU tasks are using it. Now I have an Einstein@home GPU task and it seems OK.

I would suggest trying the

I would suggest trying the great developer driver version 356.04:
http://developer.download.nvidia.com/assets/gameworks/downloads/regular/oculus07driver/356.04/356.04_geforce_win10_64bit_international.exe

First uninstall the current driver with Display Driver Uninstaller (let it start Windows in Safe Mode):
http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html

I don't believe any later driver version so far would do any better (they do worse). If 356.04 doesn't fix things then the problem is somewhere else.

Being a Windows novice (I

Being a Windows novice (I mostly use Linux) I am following Microsoft and Geforce with its Geforce_experience installer. If SETI@home GPU tasks work OK, then I am satisfied. This is my first experience with GPU crunching, I mostly use CPU tasks on my Linux boxes and on two Linux guests on the Windows 10 PC using VirtualBox.At SETI@home there is the Lunatics developer group which publishes an installer which I have downloaded on the Windows PC. Thanks anyway.
