This post is not intended to start a flame war between Windows and Linux. I use both - Linux for crunching and Win for other reasons. I already have one PC running 10 so I am somewhat familiar with Win10. Or at least I thought so. Today I bought one of these. The default OS on this device is Win 8 with a free upgrade to 10. I booted this device and it immediately upgraded Win 8 and then suggested an upgrade to 10. I agreed. It began downloading Win 10 but the speed for an 802.11AC network was dismal. Yes I do have 802.11AC routers and extenders. I started to google and came across the following:
Disable Windows Update delivery
To minimise the load on its servers during Windows 10 rollout, Microsoft has devised a system which redirects your PC to a file sharing server via P2P sharing services. Consequently, the network services on your PC are actively engaged even when your PC is left idle as Windows Update files stored on your computer are sent to other peers for P2P file-sharing.
One should disable the Windows Update delivery functionality in order to reduce the network bandwidth drain to some extent. Here are the steps:
Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Advanced Options and then change the "Choose how updates are delivered" setting to one of the following:
Turn off the p2p file transfer completely
Limit the p2p transfer to PCs on your local network

When I did this the download speed of Windows 10 to the new device increased dramatically.
What else am I missing??? If anyone has some other "gotchas" maybe we could post them here.

looked at the link you provided. started at the beginning then started from the end. There is a lot to wade through. It too bad that one cannot filter on a specific user in threads. After a while I sort of gave up.
I did review all the setting in Win10 and their sub-settings on my pcs and feel that I have a configuration I can now live with.
