I recently bought a new PC (dual processor)loaded with Vista Home Premium. I downloaded Boinc and signed on to Einstein at home. I also run Einstein on a second dual processor computer under XP Pro.

On the vista Machine I keep getting the message: "(reached daily quota of 2 results)". When I check my computers I find no results listed for the new box. I have never seen any tasks in the task page of Boinc manager. This has been happening ever since I downloaded Einstein.

Is there a particular problem with the Vista OS, or am I doing something wrong. The other machine works just fine.

Hi!

Unfortunately your Vista PC is only returning error results.

Thew same problem was recently discussed here.

Apart from the grpahics card/driver problem mentioned there, there could also be a problem with virus checking software or personal firewalls.

I don't understand this as I see no WU's downloaded to my PC, no crunching or any other indication that I have received any WU's since downloading Einstein@home.
I do not run the graphics so I don't see why my graphics card/driver would have any impact on the situation.

Does anyone else have experience with this problem, and if so have you found a solution.

Hi, Welcome to the E@H

Hi,

Welcome to the E@H project!

I'm sorry you are having problems. In fact you seem to be having exactly the same issue as jlass, the OP for this thread. I just looked at both his and your Vista computers and both are erroring out all tasks and showing the same -1 exit code.

If you look at the nessages tab in BOINC Manager, I'm sure you could see all the log information about the tasks your machine has processed in the current session. Of course, if you stop and restart your machine, the log in BOINC Manager gets cleared each time so if you want to see what has been happening during previous sessions, just scroll through the log files like stdoutgui.txt and stdoutdae.txt which are in your BOINC folder and can be browsed with any text editor.

You can also see the list of tasks that your machine has crunched by looking at your computer on the website and drilling down into its task list. If you follow the link I've given, you'll see more than 20 tasks that were allocated you your machine. Unfortunately they have all errored out.

Obviously you have followed the link supplied by Bikeman to Jord's (Ageless) message which gives a possible reason for the problem. If that solution is not applicable to you, you'll need to try something else.

I have lots of machines crunching for E@H but I've never seen this particular error code on any of them and I have no magic cure. However, if I were in your position, the two things I would consider are reverting to the previous stable version of BOINC (5.10.45) and installing it outside of the protected areas of Vista. I've never used Vista but there are enough reported problems to suggest that it's best to create an entirely separate folder (C:\BOINC for example). You may have done something like this already - you don't give any details.

It would be helpful if you give more details about your setup and particularly if you have tried any particular things already.

Cheers,
Gary.
