They are using (math) libraries that aren't available for Windows or give different results there.

And Windows works perfect @

And Windows works perfect @ vLHC using the VB
And I use them @ Atlas.........where they work as good as any of the others

There's also a project which can't figure out how to create check points. And since they can't figure out how to make short and reliable WUs either they've resorted to VB.
(there may be good reasons for them not doing the obvious)

I am running vLHC@home using

I am running vLHC@home using Virtual Box both on Linux 32-bit and Windows 8.1 64-bit. On this PC I am running also Atlas@home which needs a 64-bit Virtual Box. On this last OS I am running also Einstein@home both on CPU and GPU. I recently received 3333 credit for a GPU task. I am running Albert@home on a 32-bit Linux box. Sometimes it gives me plenty of work, other times zero, like LHC@home. I tried to run CMS-OpenData by CERN on a Linux box, also using Virtual Box but it is not a BOINC project.

The use of Virtual Box to process scientific data has been explained by the CERN scientists in the recent Budapest BOINC workshop. whose proceedings can be found at boinc.berkeley.edu.
