I was wondering what to do about any tasks the program is running or items waiting to report back when a vacation comes up and you shut down the computer for a few weeks. I have been trying to find the answer. I didn't want to shut down the computer and stop any calculations.
Maybe someone can tell me where the instructions are for this. Thanks, I'm getting tired and having trouble figuring it out.

What happens for vacations?

There is no reason to worry. If you don't meet your deadlines your units will be reassigned to someone else. Good vacation.

If I may, I'd like to expand on this...
GJ&LA Karst, you can check your network settings in your computing preferences to see what it is set at. In the section called "Network usage" there is a setting called "Maintain enough work for an additional". The integer next to that denotes how much work in time that BOINC will cache work for your computer to have in reserve. I believe by default it is set at 5 days. It can be changed to another amount if you wish (I don't recall the min. and max. amounts that are acceptable though.) As a suggestion, if as of now it is set to 5 days (or whatever it is set at), then you could set BOINC to receive no more work at about that many days before your vacation when you power down your computer. If it were me, I'd allow perhaps a day or two before that time period (say 7 days) to insure that all the work units get processed and sent back to Einstein@Home.
But as Tullio has stated, the units will be reassigned otherwise if you don't want to be bothered. It's all good.
Have a good vacation :)

You do not HAVE to shut them down when you go away. For many years now I have just let mine continue to crunch while I am away and for the most part mine just keep on crunching. Occasionally I have a pc that crashes and I can't get to it until I come back, I use lots of home built pc's to crunch with, but as stated the units just get sent to some other pc if you miss your deadline. You can also set each pc to No New Tasks in the Boinc Manager and then it will go thru its current crop of work and not get new work, that way you can go on vacation with your pc's turned off, if you'd like, and have no fear of not returning a unit before its deadline. This does require a little planning but is not hard at all, you just have to set it a few days ahead of when you plan to leave, so you can finish all your units.
