Waiting for memory is a message from BOINC.
If you go to your general preferences, online or in Advanced BOINC manager, you'll see options for your memory management.
The default settings are:
Use at most 50% of memory when computer is in use
Use at most 90% of memory when computer is not in use
These options are used on available memory, meaning that if you already use up a lot of memory through other programs, you can easily get into problems. The task should not crash though, it'll just stay waiting until it has enough memory to continue in.
