As MAC user I am just posting this link for a laugh..
Vista Voted Tech World's Top Fiasco
Edit: it is a positive article.. It mentions Ediison developing the light bulb a 1000 times before developing an acceptable version.. At least he did not hype the previous ones and release them on an unsuspecting public:-)

Yeah, Edison was the 99% perspiration component of genius!! I think he tried everything he could think of for the filament - blades of grass etc. Classic brute force, try every combo approach. One wonders if someone in Microsoft will/could give us a Fred Brooks type analysis of project management one day. Also probably worth mentioning is that Linux etc has parallel variants of varying success too. Or as Fred Brooks has said - "there is no silver bullet" :-)
Cheers, Mike.

He pointed out to a critic that he had not failed, he had clearly identified 1,000 things that did not work ...
Also, he was working in uncharted territory. Not true of Microsoft.

Do wish people would get it right. Joseph Swan invented the light bulb. Edison improved it.

I tell you this O fellow man, that if I, no c geek if ever there was one, notice that an operating system is bad because I have actually noticed that it is so, it must be bad indeed!! Hopefully MS will get it right this time.

On a slightly brighter note, I've heard a few say good things about Win 7, is there a consensus yet on whether it was worth the wait?

You would think after all this time we would get it right especially Scientific American

I like Vista.
My first computer was a laptop that came with Windows 98.
I remember when some new software absolutely wouldn’t run on Windows 98 and I was forced to upgrade to XP. Oh, Dog, I hated it. So much new stuff to learn. Damn, the thing just won’t do what I want it to do. Oh, how I loved and missed my beloved Windows 98, which did everything that I wanted it to do with just a few simple keystrokes.
But then I gradually figured out XP and learned to appreciate it’s particular strengths and adapt to its weaknesses.
Then I bought a new laptop that had Vista. Oh, Dog, I hated it. So much new stuff to learn. Damn, the thing just won’t do what I want it to do. Oh, how I loved and missed my beloved Windows XP, which did everything that I wanted it to do with just a few simple keystrokes.
After a time of learning, I figured Vista out a and learned to appreciate it’s particular strengths and adapt to its weaknesses.
I recently installed Ubuntu (Linux) on one of my machines. Oh, Dog! How I hate it. So much new stuff to learn. . . Well, you get the idea.
An OS is just an OS. They do what you tell them to do. It’s all figuring out how to get them to do what you want.
Life is a learning curve.
And, btw, I am dreading the release of Windows 7. Oh, Dog, I am sure that I am going to hate it, so much new stuff to learn. . . :o)

I am a Linux user. But I had a dual boot system with Win98 just to run my MS Flight Simulator. I gave it to my son so that his son could learn to fly a 747. I've read that MS is abandoning the development of Flight Simulator. It's a shame.

I do not "dislike" Vista but tolerate it, Windows7 though is MUCH better. I installed the Beta, downloaded from MS, and after burning it to a DVD installed it on a brand new machine. An AMD 9850 quad core with 2 gig of ram and a 250 gig hard drive. It installed in about 30 minutes and even found my Epson C66 color printer when I plugged that in! I have had zero problems with it and except for a few things it needs, like a way to send a link, it works flawlessly! I did have some 'issues' with the way it does networking, but getting on line was a breeze. The networking problem is seeing my other machines, it does now but won't always let me get into their hard drives. I can will all my other machines. All the reviewers say it is just a Vista upgrade, well then it is a very good one!! It does almost everything I need in a pc as it is now, it is even faster than all other crunchers! And yes I have another 9850 to compare it to, the other one is running Linux and the Windows7 one is MUCH faster!!

Personally, I find Vista to be very hardware dependent. On my new desktop Vista runs just fine since the computer is powerful enough to handle Vista's resource requirements (hard drive space, RAM, etc.). However, when we bought my sister's laptop with Vista on it, it was an absolute nightmare. The computer just isn't powerful enough, so it locks up, loses drivers, and generally drives the user insane. It was so bad that we tried to downgrade it to XP only to discover that much of the hardware is not backwards compatible, so we had to put Vista back on.
That said, all operating systems have their quirks. There are some things I don't like about Fedora 9 and XP, too. It all depends on what quirks you can tolerate from each OS.
