Virus scan crashes client

Dirk,

I am going to suggest that you try the Beta Application (see link under More Information on the E@H home page). Normally, I only suggest the Beta App to people who are using Einstein 4.79 and have run into a problem (graphics bug) related to using the BOINC screensaver (or "Show graphics" option). The graphics bug also causes "Client error Computing" problems and the Beta App usually cures them. It appears your problem is different but it may also be helped by the Beta. My reasoning is this: Einstein 4.79 is a bit out of date. It uses an older library that is only truly compatible with BOINC v4.19. Newer BOINC's use a newer library. Apparently the differences are subtle and mainly related to graphics but nevertheless there are compatibility problems. The Beta App uses the new BOINC library and fixes many of the known issues. While it is possible your McAfee problems could be fixed by the Beta, if they are not, you can help the software developers find the problem and get it fixed. Don't worry, the Beta App is very stable. I have been using it for about 3 months now without problem. It appears you are also using an out of date version of BOINC. You should also consider upgrading to v.4.45 or v5.2.6. But, I think you should only try one upgrade at a time. And, before you try a BOINC upgrade, read Message boards : Problems and Bug Reports : Painless upgrading to BOINC 5.2.X.

I uae McAfee on all my

I uae McAfee on all my computers, it kicks in daily for downloads and weekly for scans, and never saw it kill a result. It will almost stop the processing for the duration of the scan, but all is fine after the scan finishes.

Actually the crashes occured

Actually the crashes occured when McAfee detected trojans, and I was using the old BOINC-client (4.25) together with Einstein 4.79. I am using BOINC 5.2.7 now and so far it runs more stable the combination Seti, LHC and Einstein. No crashes so far...
