Validation errors with the new GPU ATI applicattion

Hi!

Is the card overclocked? What is the temperature of the GPU while crunching?

Cheers

Hi, The card is not

Hi,
The card is not overclocked and the max temp is 39C.

The computer does not report any temp alarms or failures, however it looks that the results are rejected by the network because of the "validation errors"

Any other ideas?

Your results aren't being "rejected by the network". They arrive at the server and at the appropriate time when a comparison is needed (two completed results to compare), a program (the validator) is called to do the comparison. Firstly a preliminary 'sanity check' of each result is done and if the validator is not happy with what it finds, it marks the faulty result with 'validate error' and puts off the comparison until a further result can be sent out and returned from a third computer. This seems to be happening to all your results.

I have looked at the specific reason given by the validator for a few of your failed results and what the validator says is quoted below.

Outcome Validate error [6] (00001000)
- a number is out of valid range for this result

It's not possible for me to find more detail about this but seeing as it is happening quite consistently to all your results, you could be fairly confident that it indicates some sort of fault with your graphics card (or perhaps a problem with drivers).

I would think your best bet would be to remove the card and check the fan for free running and the heat sink fins for freedom from dirt and fluff. I would also suggest removing the heat sink, cleaning both surfaces, and re-applying some fresh thermal grease. I have a number of HD4850s working at the Milkyway project and just recently, one started returning faulty results. I reapplied the thermal grease and now it is working again without errors.

Cheers,
Gary.

@Teco
Ever thought about an operating system change?
XP is no longer supported.
Otherwise, please try the Catalyst 12.1/XP

Minimum Requirements Ati (Einstein@Home):
Windows or Linux
BOINC Client 7.0.27
ATI GPU or APU (OpenCL 1.1 compliant, equivalent to Radeon HD 5xxx)
512 MB video memory
Catalyst Driver 12.x (don't install the APP SDK!)
