I am new to this so not sure if settings are not set up correctly. But when my computer goes to "inactive" it comes right back out saying suspending activity user active. Ideas?

The BOINC client on your computer is controlled by a large range of preference settings which can be browsed and adjusted by going to your account page on the E@H website. You should spend some time familiarising yourself with the full range of those settings so that you can better understand how BOINC works.
BOINC runs the science application at the lowest possible priority so that most people find that although the science app is consuming close to 100% of the available CPU cycles, their normal day to day computing activities are not unduly affected. In some cases, people have intensive computing needs (high performance gaming for example) so there is a preference to suspend BOINC processing when the user is active. You obviously have chosen this option so everytime you touch the mouse or keyboard, BOINC will immediately suspend the science app for whatever timeout period you have chosen and will announce this fact on the messages tab of BOINC Manager. I presume you are reading the message there. Using your mouse to click the messages tab will, of course, immediately suspend all activity and give you the message you are noticing.
Why don't you try running BOINC without this restriction and see if you can notice any difference? Most people are hard pressed to see any slowdown. If you want to try this out, just edit your computing preferences on the website so that "suspend while user is active" is set to "NO". Then select the E@H project on the projects tab of BOINC manager and hit the "update" button so that the BOINC client will go and check for changes on the website immediately. Otherwise the client would not find out until the next contact with the project occurred which could be hours or days later.
