Sorry, I've been busy and only just now seen your questions. Most have been handled by others so I'll run you through what I think you need to properly see what's going on. Firstly your list of results is quite dynamic. New ones are being added and old ones are dropping off the list as they "expire". This happens 1 week after a result is "validated" and people receive the credit. Pending results will not drop off the list until 1 week after they are finally validated. Your result for WU ID 641985 was there yesterday when I looked but is indeed gone today. It has obviously expired in the meantime. At the moment I can see the following list of WU IDs. I'll bet by tomorrow some will be gone.

Here's what I did to get the info when your computer (ID 13173) was hidden. Normally it would have been difficult but you gave a vital clue by quoting the WU ID of 641972. Try this experiment. Display your list of results (currently 16) and as you look at the list notice that both the Result ID and Work unit ID of each result is a clickable link. Click on any WU ID you like and you will get a screen showing the full name of that WU and all the computers crunching on it. Now I did that for one of my own WUs so that the URL in my browser had one of my WU IDs showing. I edited that, replacing my WU ID with the one you quoted. That way I could browse to a page showing all the details about your WU, its full name and the computer IDs of all boxes that had received it. It was easy to spot your computer, it had the expired result. Once I had your computer ID, I then had a list of all your results, including 641985 which has now expired. By clicking on each WU ID in your list I was able to find the full name to match the full name (H1_0931.9__0932.1_0.1_T20_Test02_0_0) that you originally quoted.

Don't know what you mean here by "summary box" unless you are referring to a stats list that people love to include in their sigs. I've got sigs turned off so I never see them. That way I get to view messages about 5 times faster because my poor browser doesn't have to download all that extra overhead. Since you didn't initially realise how to "unhide" your computer you really should go back and view all your preferences and see the full extent of what you can configure. Read up on settings before you go blindly changing them because in most cases the default values are quite suitable for keeping you out of trouble.

Open your eyes and click everything that looks vaguely interesting. You can "drill down" to great depths within the database and find all sorts of interesting stuff.

Cheers,
Gary.

Thanks again Gary, for all

Message 9992 in response to message 9991

Thanks again Gary, for all the time and explanations. I like your trick that you used to find my computer. But I honestly do have my eyes open, and have tried drilling down every link I see. (I am not a novice on the Web, as it obviously appears.) Even the profile link, where I missed hide/unhide has surprisingly few actual options. Finally the "summary box" is what is displayed in the message (in this very stream) from G Pascal O Cianaigh. Is this what you say is part of sigs, when turned on? (And where do I turn sigs on/off? Ok, you'll probably tell me to go look in my profile link again.) This "summary box" actually has some interesting data (like rank) which I don't know how to find either. (I can find rank for the top ranking computers/groups, and scroll down forever. But I don't see how to find just my rank.) OK. I'll stop. No, one more question: how did you find out things like that the results link takes you to only WUs that completed within the past week after validation. Stuff like that: where did you learn it? It isn't obvious.

It's done by most of the stats pages off the projects.
Look here.

My favorite site, made by Willy, is missing, but you can get there with a click on my team-banner.

The one in the middle of my sig is realtime (the others are updated ~once a day), but without ranking. It's from here, made by Petrus.

I think the task distribution here at Boinc works fine:

The project teams does the science, the application coding, and they deliver the raw data for the statistics. They even include some rudimentary statistics on the site as well.

The eager community delivers all kind of statistics, banners, competition, gadgets...you name it, it's probably already there.

Initially (about six weeks ago) I asked a dumb question about why my results were disappearing, claiming it was probably a bug. BM was kind enough to answer that results were designed to disappear progressively to keep the size of the online database down. He answered me very gently but I'm sure he was muttering something about "dumb newbies" under his breath :). I think I also discovered the answer both in the FAQ and in other posts once I learnt how to use the search function. I was embarrassed enough to vow to find answers to what I needed to know from the accumulated wisdom of the posters in these message boards. Virtually everything you have asked about or commented on has come up before in these lists. The search function will find the answers for you. You do have to be prepared to devote time to reading though.

The other thing that you can't have done properly yet is to start at your account page and simply follow every single link that you can see there. There are at least a dozen or so and if you happen to end up somewhere you really don't want to be, you can always back out. When you get to each page, study what is there and drill down further to see what is available. It takes a bit of time, I admit, but you will really become knowlegeable in a hurry.

Anyway, good luck with your progress. Do look back at what others have written by using the search function and a carefully selected search string. As an example why don't you click on the search function for the mesasage boards and type in the string (without quotes) "results+disappear" for a message body search. The number 1 hit will actually give you the answer to why results are disappearing from your results list. My dumb question actually turned up as number 23 on the hit list. Please note that these numbers may change slightly now that this message has been posted.

Take care and keep crunching!! :).

PS: Oh and "turn sigs off" simply means disable the excessive signatures that people attach to their messages showing all the cool stats. If I want to see stats then I go to a stats site and really have a good look. I don't need to be bombarded with the stats of every Tom, Dick or Harry while I'm trying to browse messages quickly. I really don't have that much time to waste :).

Cheers,
Gary.
