After a recent upgrade of Ubuntu_64 to 11.04 my BRPS work units for Nvidia GPU were all trashing with this message...

After some research discovered lib.so.1 was missing from 32 bit libraries (while present in the 64 bit library)
***They are different versions !!!****
Installing package lib32z1 (Compression library -32 bit runtime) using synaptic solved the problem
Back up and running

did you reinstall NVIDIA driver after update?
Are you using appinfo?
Please install newest NVIDIA driver.

EDIT: made the post in case it might help others. Could find nothing on the forum about this particular problem.
