Hi all, I have just started so be kind.
1) How can i adjust preferences etc, there dont appear to be an option for this, is that only available if you have multiple processors?
2) I have checked up on the status of my previous work and they have all failed due to some error or other. Is there any way of optimising my computer to improve the success rate?
3) Is there a way of switching between work, do a bit of einstein, bit of climateprediction and so on and so forth?

Why? {Takes big bite!) :)
All preferences are now on the project's websites. For Einstein that is Your Account, General Preferences, Project preferences and forum preferences.
Any changes you make & save with their buttons/links in the General and Project preferences must be "told" to BOINC on your computer, by opening Boinc Manager, Projects tab, Select the Einstein project by clicking on it, then press the Update button.
Oh look, it's the nice error again.

I'll be diverting Walt Gribben (Project developer) past this thread in a bit, as it's now becoming contagious. Before he or Bruce Allen posts here, please do NOTHING. Not reboot, not shut down, just nothing.
Yes, set that in your General preferences. The Switch between applications setting is used for that. Plus the resource share in the Project settings.
If you are attached to both Einstein and CPDN, BOINC will automatically change between the two projects according to those settings.

Just to confirm what Ageless/Jord says: this is a bug that seems to hit a few percent of users. We haven't tracked it down yet.

It appears to be working ok now. I ended up detaching from the project and reattaching for a different reason and then extra stuff was downloading that didnt the first time round and it did the work properly and marked as a success now. So i assume this bug is fixed
