Too big workunits for slow internet connection

At my location DSL is not available. I can use Modem 56 K only. The download one workunit needs 40 minutes at a cost of 1 Euro. So i hope for understanding that i cannot continue to take part.
The other dislike is the automatically connection f the program to internet although i disabled. After a new start of ther pc the disabling is away and a new interrnet connection is built - with cost for me.
My pc is 3.2 GHz double processor, but the workunits seem to be too big.

You might be happier with Predictor. The initial download is pretty hefty but, after that, WUs are tiny.
Edit: Oh, that's Protein Predictor, not CPDN. ;)

I use dail-up also. Don't worry, the very large chunk of data that you had to download will last you quite a while. The work units are actually templates describing how to analyze said "chunk o' data". The WU's are generated rather than downloaded. Dev's say the large 11MB data chunks should last you a month or so.

*Most* of the time you will just have one data file. But you may get additional ones if there are results that are 'late'.
Also, the files that are uploaded can be fairly large. So if you have to pay this much/minute for a dial-up connection, Einstein@Home may not be the best choice for you. I'm sorry: we have a BIG data set.

Actually it's the unsent 'result' that is late. Specifically if a result has not been sent for 7 days after it's created, then it gets sent to the first available host that has a high-bandwidth download connection (>100kB/s).

Which field is checked by the server to determine download connection speed;
The average download rate in the computer summery or
Maximum Download Rate in the Einstein General Preferences or
None of the above?????

I wondered about that. I too have 56k dial-up and I thought either the W/U's were smaller than advertised or I had an exceptionally fast modem (which was not possible). It all makes sense now. I don't find dial-up a problem in this at all. My Athlon XP2700+ does a W/U in 5 hours and 45 minutes on average and downloads long periods of data but rarely. Like you said, maybe once or twice a month. I run this computer 24/7 and do not overclock. The new W/U's seem to pop-up from nowhere most of the time. I am glad to know why and how. Thanks for the tutorial.
