For those interested just cut the top of a store bought pineapple with a little flesh and put it in the ground. It will root and produce.

Never had one yet that did that, they just rot away!

I live on a barrier island which is to say I live on a sandbar. The soil here, if you want to call it that, drains quite well. If you are planting yours in standard potting soil then I can understand you might experience rot, especially if you get days of rain. Here I have to hand water so I can control the water the plant receives. Try a very sandy soil mix and remember they like full sun all day if possible.

OK thanks I might just try

OK thanks I might just try that. But in the wet UK it looks like a summer room or green house job than in the garden (yard).

Waiting for Godot & salvation :-)

Why do doctors have to practice?

Yeah I don't think pineapples grow naturally in the UK, you may have to be creative to get them to produce. Good thing though...if you grow them in a greenhouse you won't have to worry about the squirrel proofing part!

David S that's alot of stuff going on, is it like that all the time? Are there many days where things 'just work', or are there some kind of problems on most days.

The problem with the trolley pole is pretty unique. One train or another having a technical problem is not frequent, but not uncommon either.

The Big Bad Superintendent questioned the motorman about how long he knew there was a problem and said there is a big but repairable gouge in the wheel and the harp, and sentenced him to spend a couple of hours with the department Curator learning how much work it will take to fix it, but did not suspend him.

Switching getting in the way of operation is a fairly common thing, but much more so now because of moving things all over the place to fill the new barns. Track work should be largely over by Memorial Day. Learned, however, that the last coal train may stay until the end of June, which will make dispatching very interesting on M Day weekend.

That's IT, no details on what you each ate or drank? How about the name of the place, was it a 'usual' place or someplace 'special'? How was the service? Details man, we want details!! HOW can we relate to your experience if we don't know what you had or where?

I am winning!!!

Mikey Mikey, a Gentleman

Mikey Mikey, a Gentleman never tells. If the Lady herself, who is already spoken for, wishes to divulge various intimate details, that is of course her prerogative. Suffice it to say that food, and alcohol of a discerning quality, as indeed was the conversation, was enjoyed by those participating.

:))) Had a lovely time,

:)))

Had a lovely time, thank you :)

*peer at Chris's bonce* I do think he erred in leaving it to me to set my heart on where we should sit though, people *pensive gaze around TLPTP thread* because I immediately sailed my head straight into a cabinet above it but left it intact... *sorrowful blink* ... for another victim to do the same, although with the discernment at least, of doing so after a couple of beers :)

Please wait here. Further instructions could pile up at any time. Thank you.

[Francis Urquhart voice on]

You might very well think that,
But I couldn't possibly comment.

[Francis Urquhart voice off]

Said establishment has had the pleasure of our patronage before, and was well prepared with sticking plasters in their first aid kit, should they have become necessary. The cabinet makers were on standby but were stood down, and they reverted to Defcon 3 upon our departure. The general consensus of opinion upon debrief was that another 1/2 of a certain beverage could well have avoided the mishap. Lessons will be learned for the future*

* that is if she leaves me alive to learn them :-)))
