Hello friends and fellow crunchers, as I approach the 30 million credit mark, it's with a bit of of sadness that I must, for the time being, withdrawal my cycles from not only Einstein but distributed computing in general.
I want to be clear that I will be leaving the project without any grievances or regrets. I could just turn off the cycles, but I wanted to use this opportunity to voice my opinion about why I think this is a great project and what it means to me, personally.
E@H has a great community and just as important - a great administration behind it. This perspective goes beyond the notion of sharing common interests in the field radio astronomy and all that entails. Instead, what I see are people working together, communicating openly about the project's status, findings, and results, and working together to improve the project.
I want to encourage others that may find it difficult to continue with the project at times to continue on where I cannot. I haven't found a pulsar, to my knowledge, but the data I went through brought us all closer to the results that we have found thus far, just as your cycles have done the same. More important than an individual taking recognition (which is a very good thing that E@H does and I approve of it!), the community as a whole benefits from your work, whether your computer found an anomaly or not.
If we can educate people about science, some of those people will be interested in science. Some of those interested will want to become involved, and some of those that get involved will pick Einstein. I hope this trend can continue, and E@H sets the example of what a community DC project should be by sharing its results with the community. Excellent.
As for the specifics as to my departure, it's a long story. Let's just say however that some changes are happening in my life, I've become involved in some other things (not DC related) for which I'll need resources, my computers, and the electricity, and as such right now it's not practical for me to continue.
If and when I do return however, it will be right here. I'm not deleting my account or anything. Maybe one day I'll be able to return.
Thanks to everyone who made this a great experience. Crunch on!

Looking forward to your return and please do keep well. :-)
Cheers, Mike.
I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter ...

Thanks for that, Mike. You've always been a great leader and I owe a lot of respect to the program based on your work alone.
When and if I do come back, as previously mentioned it would be right here. I've done my fair share of DC, but at this point E@H and DC are synonymous concepts to me.
Thank you! Blush :-)

Hope to see you back sometime.
I too left DC for a few years, eventually due to costs of electricity in Germany (oh boy are we getting ripped off here, but it's basically also our unbacked paper money - the infamous Euro - losing value in record time like many other paper currencies worldwide).
After I got note that an Android Client was released, I gave it a shot out of curiosity - 2 months later I'm running two additional GPU systems 24/7, catched fire again one could say *g*
I returned to Einstein for exactly the reasons you posted, nothing to add there :)
