My CPU usage is constantly jumping between 30 and 80% and it looks like there are at least 6 Einstein@Home tasks running at once. I've only been using BOINC for a short amount of time and I thought my computer would be able to handle these tasks (http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/hosts_user.php?userid=9505804), but I can't find any ways to reduce the number of active tasks. I'm somewhat clueless when it comes to the Preferences page, so are there some recommended numbers I should use to prevent my PC from frying itself?

Is there a way to limit the number of tasks?

There should be 8 Einstein tasks running if you are not attached to any other projects; and your computer should have no difficulties to cope with that, provided there's enough cooling power and no "dust bunnies" are clogging up the system.
In your Computing preferences, there's a setting
If you set that value to anything between 88% and 99%, only 7 of the 8 (virtual) cores of your computer will be used for BOINC processing. You can go further down in 12.5% steps. However, if you have ever used the local preferences, you'll have to make the changes there or clear them altogether, since they override the online ones.

tools > computing preferences > processor usage > Then alter " On multiprocessor systems, use at most " xxx " % of the processors"
I reduce mine to 75% during the summer, and back to 100% during the winter.
