    I have been running BOINC for about one month. Starting today, the BOINC Manager now appears on my taskbar. It will not go away. It was not there during the first month. The "B" symbol is still near the system clock. How do I make it disappear again?

      Either you use the "hide icon" option in Windows XP.
      Or you install BOINC as a service and uncheck the option to start BOINC when logging in on Windows. Then BOINC's service will start whenever you start up the PC (no need to log in, the service will run already), will run invisible for all users and you can manually start BOINC Manager so the B shows in the system tray.

      Select your preferred way to display the comments and click "Save settings" to activate your changes.
