Too bad they don't use these results at all. I use my laptop very often, and i don't have problems with doing the workunits in time, but my desktop isn't that much in use and sometimes gives me problems... like this time.
One possible solution for your desktop is if you use it at about the same times each day, go into your preferences and set it to run BOINC only during those hours and not the other hours. This will allow BOINC to tell the project "Hey, I can only run X hours in a day so don't give me as much work". Set up two seperate profiles, one ("home" for instance) for your laptop and another ("work" for instance) for your desktop system with different preferences and running times. Then you tell BOINC which profile to use on each computer.
Actually, BOINC CC will figure this out eventually. There's a value called % of time BOINC client is running. It'll drop (I don't know how fast) and as direct consequence your client will request less work from project server.
I have a similar issue. "Result was reported too late to validate" but in my case:
Received: 15 Sep 2006 20:33:17 UTC
Deadline: 17 Sep 2006 15:10:58 UTC
Link: http://einsteinathome.org/task/41800770
Workunit: 13341873
I don't know why I got 0 credits. Maybe a mistake?
Maybe it had something to do with the server trouble they had. This WU should never have been sent to the third host when it was.
The strange part is even though you're listed and reported a good result within the deadline, the BOINC database is acting like it thinks you reported back previously with an error.
The reason you got no credit was the WU validated already when the third result came back.
