Topic 187396

Hello,

I have some machines which are not quite new, a 266MHz, two 500MHz, one 1 GHz and one 2,4 GHz.

I have the problem that the WU's in Einstein are too big for the timelimit set for them (for the small machines), so I've been 75% done, when the became over the timelimit.
This is waste of the computepower I put in the project.

So I either suggest to make the WU's smaller, or make the time limit longer (I'll prefer the firstr solution).

An even better, and more resourcedemanding solution were to use your information about our machines and fit the WU's for the machines.

Size of WU's

Hi Niels,

take a look at this thread: http://einsteinathome.org/node/187376

Hope this will answer your questions

Change your connect to value

Change your connect to value to 1 or 2 days, problem solved.

I would recommend you to set

I would recommend you to set your connect to value to 0.01 days. My pIII 450 does a WU in about 40H so the two 500MHz machines would be fine with these settings or even something a little bit higher. The 266MHz i think would do a WU in 160-200H or even worse. I think i have seen somewhere that the FPU of the old AMD was not so good, so chances are that the 266MHz is to slow for the project at this time. How fast does it do a SETI unit?

Then you're really interested in a subject, there is no way to avoid it. You have to read the Manual.

Yes I saw (after I wrote my comment) that there are several threads on this subjects I did not deduct this out of the titles , so sorry to have started yet another thread.

And my connect is 0.1 days, and I do not have cached WU's on my machines, it is the worktime that is to short.

I will, as it looks like my 266MHz machine (running 24/7 as a server, and therefore is idle most of the time) will finish the current WU in 4 days and 5 hours, and within the timelimit, as I will detach Einstein from this machine.

I wonder if I also should run only seti on the two 55 MHz machiones, at least until the WU's gets smaller, or have a longer timelimit.

I would still prefer that the project would use the knowledge to my machines and an intelligent guess from my current histori, to feed me WU of appropiate sizes.
