hello.

i have been running boinc 5.2.2 for a while now and have decided to run it on another pc in my home using the same accounts. It installed fine and attached to projects and got new work, accept seti.

now on the first machine i cant get new work from einstein and seti wont upload either, (are the seti servers down?) E@H just reports "not requesting new work".

it was working fine before i installed on the second machine.
first PC running seti, einstein and climate.
second PC running seti, einstein and predictor.

Disk and memory usage
Use no more than 100 GB disk space
Leave at least 0.1 GB disk space free
Use no more than 50% of total disk space
Write to disk at most every 60 seconds
Use no more than 75% of total virtual memory

Network usage
Connect to network about every 2 days (was 1 day but changed it just now to see if that would help, but it didnt)

basically, what prefernces should i be using so that boinc runs smoothly, i.e. downloads the right amount of work and runs in the background without needing me to play around.

(both machines are simlilar, working on a lan with 512dsl, 1.8GHz+, 768MB RAM+ with 40GB+ HDD)

any assistance would be muchly appreciated.

thank you

steve

Seti's servers are getting hammered at the moment (and I'm sure the Berkeley staff would like to go out and get hammered too) and the project is pretty much down.

Einstein is up and running. The message you are getting could be due to a couple of reasons. First, you may owe a debt to Seti. Or, it could be BOINCs way of honoring your resource shares (if they aren't 50/50).

You can read about Long Term Debt in the BOINC Wiki. There's more info in there than you've probably ever wanted.

And I use Boinc Debt View to monitor my debt values.

Hope this is clear and helps some.

Steve,

It's a complicated story but it's due to Seti servers being overloaded. It's virtually impossible to get or return work to Seti at the moment. To get work for your other projects (EAH on machine 1) you need to go to the projects tab in BOINC Manager and select the Seti project by clicking it and click the suspend button. Any work stuck uploading to Seti will still try to upload as before but the benefit will be that EAH will immediately download some work.

Eventually you will probably have to do the same on machine 2 so you may as well do it now. You will need to keep a watch on Seti and "unsuspend" that project on both machines when they resolve their current problems with their servers.

There is a more complete answer in this thread.

Cheers,
Gary.
