Hello

I am trying to create a password, so I log in using the key e-mailed to me choose to edit/create the password, type in my password, click submit, and then the page that loads is blank, apart from the top menu bar, with no error message nor any indication of success. Well actually I know it hasn't worked, 'cos when I try to log in using the e-mail and password I am refused. Any ideas anybody ? Just for the record I have managed to set up passwords for seti@home, rosetta@home without hassles.

setting up my password error

Gray,

I've not tried creating a login password, my browser remembers the url and account key and login is automatic.

There has been very little activity on the messageboards this weekend. You will get the attention of someone who can informatively address your question shortly.

Umm sorry, I seem to have duplicated a post here...

Anyhow, to return to the thread: Yup my browser does that too, but I wanted to use the latest version of BOINC (5.2.1 when last I looked) mostly cos I hoped it might sort out some issues with screensavers and such, and basically I love trying out the new stuff :) . Also in the not too distant future all the BOINC apps will be run on version 5, so I figured I'd get sorted ahead of time.

for the time being I am back

for the time being I am back with BOINC 4.25 again in order to get Einstein@home going, but it seemed a good idea to try to get the devs aware of the issue - hopefully not just me messing up or similar :/

Gray,

Nice to have you back helping Einstein. Which computer/s do you intend to use.

If you want to try the Boinc 5.2.1 again, your help would be appreciated. Just unibstall Boinc through Uncle Billy's Add & Remove Programs and then install the beta. No need to exhaust current WUs, though you don't seem to have nay yet, or anything else - just the basic uninstall-install routine.

There's a thread devoted to 5.2.1 at Cafe Einstein that I'm trying to keep on-track, and you might want to add your experiences with the beta.

Regards
Michael

Hehe - Uncle Billy's etc -

Hehe - Uncle Billy's etc - yeah I like that lol.
Anyhow, yep I'm back with 5.2.1 again - uninstalling and re-installing is something of a habit here :) ...
The PC I use comes with XP (ulp) installed - guaranteed to work with all known viruses etc. Services pack 2 with all latest updates (paranoid - me).
One thing I do wish the devs for BOINC had kept was the "file" menu with "hide". From sheer habit I clicked where "hide" should be and ...ooops, and yes I know about clicking the close button at top right, but habit kicked in ....
Anyhow the issue for me really is not the program - or should I say, rather, first I need to get the password working, cos if I try to use 5.2.1 with the key that was e-mailed to me I get refused, hence the initial downgrade to 4.25. My problem occurs when I am actually on the website trying to create the password - I think once I have got a functional password all should be fine.

Erm.... when trying to get the password working I actually get a blank page with this name: http://einstein.phys.....it_passwd_action.php (the dots I assume mean the name is too long for the tab)

Hope this helps someone

There was one webpage that was out of date. I think the problem should be fixed now.

Thanks for the report.

David,

Thank you very much for taking a look at this thread. I really hadn't a clue how to help, except that I was about to try to recreate the scenario with my machine & account.

Gray,

Do you have anything to add? Are you able now to login with a password? I hope to get your thoughts re: 5.2.1 on the other thread when you've had a good run on it. On which of your computers are you running it?

Respects
Michael

Gray, While poking around,

Gray,

While poking around, I found this thread (below), which may pertain to your problem. It's a little stale, and as David has said, the problem may be fixed now.
