Would it be possible to make and link to a page that has descriptions of the various items on the server status page? I realize that I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, but I have not been able to figure out what the BOINC transitioner or assimulator does. Those are the main two though there is some small head scratching on a couple of others on the page too.

Server status and general Einstein progress clarification

The assimilator handles workunits that are 'completed': that is, that have a canonical result or for which an error condition has occurred. Handling a successfully completed result might involve record results in a database and perhaps triggering the generation of more work.

The transitioner acts as a coordinator. It examines workunits for which a state change has occurred (e.g., a completed result has been reported). Depending on the situation, it may generates new results, flag the workunit as having a nonrecoverable error, or trigger validation or assimilation of the workunit.

Any further questions, look at the SETI@home server status (available from the front page, even for non SETI participants) where all the various components are explained... (their terminology is the same as E@H's) (except "fix_missing_results" which, AFAIK, is specific to SETI... and pretty much self-explanitory... and almost always "disabled"!) There's also a neat list of the last xxxx client types/versions to contact their server. (xxxx gets to 9999, then resets... I think!)
