Screensaver locks up

Apologize if this has been covered elsewhere, but I couldn't find it.
Lately I've noticed that einstein is frequently locking up when in screensaver mode. The orb will cease spinning, but I can get a mouse pointer back by ctrl-alt-del or alt-tab. The graphics do not clear however. The cursor will even change to the "finger" indicating that the mouse is over a hyper-link. So its as if everything is still running in the background, but einstein won't release the display.
I've been running on this computer with the same hardware for over two years now with no issues, and I only see this behavior from einstein. Any thoughts?

v 4.24 on a P4 2.4 GHz with 512 mb ram and an ATI Radeon 9500 pro

Well, one thing which is coming to mind is historically the EAH screensaver has had problems with ATI graphics cards. So you may want to see if there is a driver update available for your 9500.
Another possibility is there was some flakiness in the interaction between BOINC and screensavers in earlier 5.8 series versions of BOINC, so you may want to try upgrading to the latest release version.

I had tried the driver updates with no success....but as for the BOINC version....? I had lost track and it turns out I'm running 5.4.11 and they're now up to 5.8.15. We'll see if that helps. On a related note, is there any automated method to be informed of new BOINC version releases?

I just want to say, that I have exactly the same problem. I use BIONC on two different notebooks, both with a graphic card from ATI.
The first one with an ATI 9700 mobile works without any problems.
The second one with an ATI X600 mobile has problems only with the einstein@home-screensaver. I think that the computer especially hangs up when it worked for a long time and showed the screensaver for a long time. The monitor is flickering and the computer isn't reacting. I've to switch power off and restart.
I use BOINC 5.8.11 and actual drivers, Win XP SP2, Centrino 1,73 with 1 GB RAM.
Help would be wonderful.... thank you!

It's not a forced upgrade, so they do not automate telling you that there is an update. Until they need to force it for any reason, they feel the software works for you, it works for you and leave you alone. Otherwise you could get messages several times a week.
