I've read that BONIC application works as a screensaver with map of space that it is actually "computing" (sorry for my english;) but I've got a linux.
my BONIC is an ordinary windowed application. the question is: is this screensaver only for windows? or can I use it as the screensaver on my linux? (PLD Linux with KDE-3)

OK... read the FAQ, installed

OK... read the FAQ, installed the core client (boinc_4.19_i686-pc-linux-gnu) and gui (boincgui-0.4). Both run fine on my box (gentoo Linux, xorg-x11, OpenGL)

The FAQ says to "Start up the new BOINC core client, then start the BOINC GUI... you should be able to highlight a running Workunit in the WORK tab and then use the 'Show Graphics' option to display it."

I highlighted the running workunit (in the WORK tab) but I have no menu option to "Show Graphics". The only available menu options in the gui are "File/Quit" and "Display/Font".

What am I missing?

TIA

Where did you get the "boincgui" from?

The FAQ entry you citated refers to newer boinc clients which include a gui, recently called "Boinc Manager". The 4.19 doesn't have this included, I think you either got a third party tool (I know nothing about) or a quite early version of the BOINC Manager which doesn't have this feature implemented. I think there have been versions of the BOINC Manager that could control the 4.19 client, too, but I don't know if they have been available for download separately. You may want to try the "Development Client", currently 4.43.

Thanks. That makes sense. I

Thanks. That makes sense. I just grabbed the "recommended version" of the client for Linux (v4.19) from the downloads page thinking it would be the latest stable version.

The boincgui came from the "add-ons" page. After not finding a gui in the client I assumed boincgui was the gui referred to in the FAQ.

I'll update to the dev version of the client.
