After using it as my main screensaver for months and months and for no apparent reason my Einstein screensaver has suddenly stopped operating. The screen goes black and just shows the info in the four corners and no rotating star sphere. Help!

I have 2 PCs that have Windows XP Pro installed and both of them only show the BOINC screen saver and it never goes to the Einstein Screensaver.
On a different PC I have the SETI@HOME Screensaver installed using BOINC & it works fine.
What does Einstein use or not use that SETI does not or does use?

I asked Rom Walton about this tonight.
If you do see the BOINC screen saver, with the BOINC logo bouncing around on the screen, then that's the best the developers can do for now. Windows had some changes in this department, some security updates that fixed a Windows problem but broke the protected screen saver option.
If you use an older version of BOINC where it still works, then this is a bug. It shouldn't work on any version of BOINC, but the weirdness of that bug makes it work on some computers, while others only show a black screen.
BOINC 6 will fix all that with version 6 applications.

Do you have a guesstimate about when 6 is coming out?

No. Somewhere in the new year.
But just BOINC 6 won't fix it if the project stays on the version 5 of their applications. They need to release BOINC 6 compliant applications, with the graphics as a separate application for this fix to work.

Well, we are in March of 2008. When is the upgrade coming out? I want a nice screen saver on my PC. This "BOINC" bouncing around my screen just doesn't make it. I have been an avid fan of the Einstein Project since I graduated to it from Seti At Home (quite a few years ago).

Development has just ended (they hope) the revisions of the 5.10 branch, so 6 is now on their agenda. The latest version available of 6.1 is still very buggy, remember that if you see the option to download it somewhere.
