einstein at home is running well on my XP machine but when it is running I have trouble getting my screen saver to let me work. Once the screen saver starts, it takes 1 or 2 minutes or more from the time I wiggle the mouse or hit a key until I have control of my screen. Turning off BOINC fixes this.
What am I missing?

I am not sure this is the "right fix" for your problem but you might try answering "No" to the "Do work while computer is in use?" question in the "Processor usage" area of your E@H account's "General preferences".

Another thought - could this just be a symptom of a Windows problem? That is, if you are running out of room on your disc drive, BOINC may be having a problem finding a place to save it's files when it's time for the screensaver to quit. If this is it, you should probably being seeing similar problems with other applications, but they might not be as noticeable. Anyway, running Disc Cleanup to get rid of old temp files couldn't hurt. Same with running Disk Defragmenter.

Switching to the BOINC screen saver appears to have solved the problem, I probably should have thought of that first. I had been running the old 3D Pipes saver from MS.

If BOINC runs at the same time as Windows XP 3-D screensavers, the system becomes sluggish and unresponsive.
