I've recently re-installed after not using the app for several years. About 25% of the time, the screen saver locks up the computer and the only way I can figure to get around it is to turn off the power.
The cursor moves, and there are sometimes that it looks like it's found a link or a function, but clicking does nothing.
C-A-D doesn't work. Nothing does short of turning it off...
I'm running:
H-P Pavilion Pentium 4, 3.00 GHz, 512 MB RAM
Windows XP, Media Center Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 3
Radeon X300/X550/X1050 Series

More ram would make a BIG difference! Most computers come with 1 gig nowadays and then get upgraded to at least 2 gig fairly quickly. If your cursor moves give it more time, it is probably swapping huge amounts of data around due to the lack of ram in your machine. You didn't say what model of HP you have but here is a link to the memory provider Crucial site so you can see what you need to upgrade it and how much total you can add.
http://www.crucial.com/index.aspx You don't have to buy from them but at least you can check what will work for you thru them. I have found that sometimes they have excellent prices and sometimes I can find it elsewhere cheaper. I can say though that I have never had a problem with what they have told me about what a system needs. In fact at my work we spent $60,000.00 on memory upgrades based on their recommendations.

I don't think that it's (only) a RAM issue, as I run Einstein@home on a 2.5 GHz laptop with 512 MB RAM (minus 64MB for graphic chip) without problems.
It is probably a graphic (driver) problem. See this FAQ entry for more info.

You can also install it without the screensaver. This is what I do myself and then BOINC works fine.
If you want to see the screensaver you can click on “show graphics†in the BOINC manager. If your Einstein app works, and the graphics not, then an issue with the graphics driver is very likely.
